Job Description
Our client, a boutique agency, is looking for a Creative Director to join their team! This client is open to strategic Senior Designers or Art Directors who are looking to take the next step into a Creative Director role.
This role is mostly remote; however, you must attend a mandatory on-site meeting one day a month in NYC, so you must be commutable to NYC.
The ideal candidate is a highly conceptual, strategically minded Creative Director to help lead the development of creative work across the agency. This person will play a key role in shaping ideas from initial strategy through final execution, ensuring that the work is smart, relevant, visually compelling, and aligned with both client objectives and brand strategy.
The ideal candidate is a strong conceptual thinker who can translate strategy into creative ideas and then bring those ideas to life through exceptional art direction and design. This is a hands-on creative role, suited to someone who enjoys developing the big idea as much as executing and refining the work. The Creative Director will work closely with the CEO, the ECD, designers, and agency leadership to raise the overall quality of the agency’s creative product.
Responsibilities
-Creative Concepting & Strategy: Translate client briefs, business objectives, and brand strategies into compelling creative platforms, concepts, campaigns, and activations.
-Art Direction & Design: Provide strong visual direction across projects while remaining hands-on in the development and refinement of creative work.
-Creative Leadership: Lead projects from initial brief through concept development, presentation, revisions, and final execution.
-Idea Development: Generate original ideas across shopper marketing, and retail marketing.
-Creative Problem Solving: Look beyond the immediate assignment to identify stronger, smarter, or more effective creative solutions.
-Client Presentation: Confidently present creative thinking and concepts to clients, articulate the rationale behind the work, and respond constructively to feedback.
-Team Direction: Provide clear direction and feedback to designers, art directors, copywriters, freelancers, photographers, illustrators, and other creative partners.
-Creative Quality Control: Maintain a high standard of craft and attention to detail throughout the creative process, from initial concept through final production.
-Emerging Creative Tools: Stay current with AI and other emerging creative technologies and identify ways they can enhance concept development, visualization, and execution.
Qualifications:
-The ideal candidate will have approximately 8-12+ years of agency creative experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating both conceptual thinking and exceptional art direction. They should be comfortable moving between strategy, ideas, design, and execution. This is not a managerial only role rather someone that can work through all phases of creative.
-Experience with beverage/alcohol, luxury, retail, shopper marketing.
-Most importantly, this person should be someone who can look at a brief and ask “What’s the idea?”, not simply “What should this look like?”
What Success Looks Like
You will be a trusted creative leader who can take ownership of assignments, develop strong ideas with limited oversight, elevate the work of the broader team, and help ensure that the agency consistently delivers thoughtful, strategically grounded, beautifully executed creative.
They should ultimately be capable of owning a significant portion of the creative leadership currently handled at the senior agency level, while bringing their own perspective, energy, and creative point of view to the department.
In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data. This position is onsite and requires you to work closely with other individuals in a collaborative team environment.
