About Vertex Engineering
Vertex Engineering P.C. is a New York professional engineering firm headquartered in Whitestone, Queens. We provide engineering design support, construction management, resident engineering, construction inspection, quality management, program management, cost estimating and project controls to public agencies across New York and New Jersey, on transit, bridges and highways, public buildings, schools, parks, water and housing. Vertex is led by its founder, a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), PMP and Certified Construction Manager (CCM), and is a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) with NYC SBS and the Port Authority of NY & NJ. We are a growing, founder-led firm: you work directly with leadership, your credentials are put to use on proposals and projects, and good work is noticed quickly.
Position Summary
Vertex Engineering is hiring a licensed architect to lead architectural design and construction administration on public buildings: schools, housing, parks and recreation facilities, transit and authority buildings, and facade and roof rehabilitation.
You will carry projects from programming and existing-conditions surveys through design, construction documents, agency filings and construction-phase services.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Design
- Lead programming, existing-conditions surveys, schematic design, design development and construction documents for renovations, additions and new public buildings.
- Perform building code and zoning analysis (NYC Building Code, IBC, NJ Uniform Construction Code, NYC Zoning Resolution) and accessibility design (ADA / ANSI A117.1).
- Design building envelope, facade, roofing, waterproofing and interior systems; select materials and prepare details.
- Prepare and seal drawings and CSI-format specifications; coordinate structural, MEP, fire-protection and civil consultants.
- Prepare and manage NYC DOB, FDNY, Landmarks and agency filings and approvals.
Construction Administration
- Review architectural submittals, shop drawings, product data and samples; respond to RFIs and issue clarifications and bulletins.
- Inspect and document envelope, roofing, masonry, curtain wall, waterproofing and finish work; prepare punch lists and close-out documentation.
- Evaluate architectural change orders; perform or support facade (FISP / Local Law 11) inspections where QEWI-qualified.
Required Qualifications
- B.Arch or M.Arch from a NAAB-accredited program.
- Current New York State Registered Architect license.
- 7+ years of architectural experience, including design and construction documents for public or institutional buildings, and 3+ years of construction administration.
- Working knowledge of NYC Construction Codes, zoning, accessibility standards and NYC DOB filing procedures.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; Bluebeam for markups.
Preferred Qualifications
- NYC DOB Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI)
- LEED AP BD+C (or LEED Green Associate)
- New Jersey Registered Architect license (Vertex reimburses licensing fees)
- Experience with NYCHA, NYC Parks, NYC SCA, DDC, MTA or PANYNJ facilities
- OSHA 30; NYC DOB Site Safety Training (SST) card
