In 2016, two groups named “Crossing Party Lines” started independently of one another on opposite ends of the country, only a few months apart. They joined forces to bring civil, respectful conversation to the rest of the country.,

Write realistic dialogue, rich character backstories, and grounded scenario premises for games and interactive simulations designed to help people communicate across ideological divides.

Crossing Party Lines is seeking a perceptive, dialogue-driven Game Story Writer to join our Apps and Agents team. While our Narrative Designers focus on overall systems, branching logic, and state progression, the Story Writer focuses on the human core of our scenarios natural dialogue, distinct character voices, emotional subtext, and authentic conflict. You will craft the scenes, backstory bibles, and conversation scripts that populate our role-play simulations—ensuring encounters in workplaces, town halls, and family gatherings feel believable, challenging, and psychologically grounded.

About The Apps And Agents Team Our team blends modern generative AI models and multi-agent systems with Crossing Party Lines’ proprietary depolarization frameworks. As we prepare an application to Y Combinator and explore broad distribution for our interactive tools, high-caliber creative writing is critical. Realistic practice requires believable interlocutors who speak like real people rather than policy whitepapers or caricatures.

What You’ll Do

  • Write sharp, authentic, multi-turn dialogue scripts and scenario setups reflecting realistic everyday disagreements (e.g., civic issues, institutional trust, cultural divides).
  • Build comprehensive character profiles—including underlying values, personal histories, emotional triggers, communication habits, and speech quirks—to serve as foundational lore for AI role-play agents.
  • Script player dialogue choices, internal monologues, and reflection prompts that capture the nuance of genuine communication without sounding preachy or canned.
  • Write scenario briefing documents, environmental flavor text, and in-game debriefing narratives that unpack what happened beneath the surface of an encounter.
  • Work with narrative designers and AI engineers to translate written dialogue samples into system prompts that keep dynamic AI characters grounded in their persona.
  • Review and polish dialogue submissions across our team to ensure uniform tonal authenticity, emotional resonance, and natural cadence.

You May Be a Good Fit If You

  • Have writing experience in screenwriting, playwriting, fiction, interactive narrative, or video games with a strong portfolio of dialogue samples.
  • Possess an ear for natural, colloquial speech, vernacular nuance, and what remains unsaid in subtext.
  • Can inhabit and write empathetically from political, cultural, and social viewpoints fundamentally different from your own, avoiding strawmen or caricature.
  • Understand how to generate dramatic tension out of everyday human interactions and value collisions.
  • Enjoy collaborating in an iterative workshop-style environment where scripts are read, playtested, and refined.

What You’ll Gain

  • Written credits on functional serious games and AI-powered simulation tools tackling critical civic issues.
  • Hands-on experience developing character lore and dialogue specifically tuned for conversational AI agents.
  • Collaboration with communication experts, game designers, and generative AI engineers.
  • Professional references recognizing your writing craft, ear for dialogue, and creative reliability.
