About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled UX/UI Designer to join our Digital Innovation & Integration Service Capability (DIISC) team within NASA’s Aerospace Capabilities Portfolio Office (ACPO). This is a unique opportunity to serve as the founding UX/UI design lead for a growing software development team focused on creating analytics applications used by NASA’s aeronautics community. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing the end-to-end user experience strategy across multiple data-intensive platforms. Your work will be instrumental in transforming complex scientific and operational data into intuitive, accessible, and impactful user interfaces. You will establish the team’s design culture, create foundational design systems, and lead user research efforts to ensure that user needs are at the forefront of product development. This position offers the chance to influence mission-critical applications that support scientific research, data analysis, and operational decision-making at NASA, all within a fully remote work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience Design, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered
• Minimum of eight years of relevant experience in UX/UI design
• Proven experience designing analytics-focused, data-intensive applications such as dashboards, data tables, visualizations, reporting systems, and analytics platforms
• Strong portfolio demonstrating complex data-driven product design work
• Expertise in data visualization and communicating technical information through design
• Advanced proficiency with Figma and experience creating comprehensive design systems from scratch
• Experience defining user personas and conducting user research that impacts product development
• Strong skills in visual design, interaction design, and information architecture
• Exceptional attention to detail and independent decision-making abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• U.S. citizenship is required

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the team’s design system, establishing components, patterns, standards, and documentation to ensure consistency and efficiency
• Set design governance and best practices to serve as the foundation for current and future applications
• Define user personas and identify user needs through comprehensive research activities
• Lead user research initiatives, synthesize findings, and translate insights into actionable design recommendations
• Create high-fidelity mockups, prototypes, and production-ready designs for dashboards, data visualizations, and complex workflows
• Design intuitive interfaces that facilitate data exploration, analysis, and decision-making
• Develop meaningful visual representations of complex technical data to support user understanding and insights
• Select appropriate visualization techniques to enhance clarity, usability, and accessibility of data-centric applications
• Develop user flows, journey maps, wireframes, and interaction models to optimize user experience
• Present, explain, and defend design concepts and recommendations to stakeholders and technical teams
• Collaborate closely with software engineers, data scientists, analysts, and leadership to translate requirements into user-centered solutions
• Continuously iterate on designs based on user feedback and usability testing to improve overall experience
