Job Description
UI/UX Software Designer, Themed Maps
Campus Corners · Los Angeles, CA · Hybrid / Remote · Internship
About Campus Corners
Campus Corners is a campus-first mapping platform built to be the go-to map for college life. Students use it to discover events, read peer ratings, and find activities shared by campus clubs, guided by our original character, Sparko. Our collectible stickers unlock themed maps in the app, and clubs use the platform to promote their events. We are starting at UCLA, where we have collaborated with the RISE Center, and expanding to campuses across the United States.
The role
We are looking for a UI/UX Software Designer to own our themed maps, the curated map layers students unlock with Campus Corners stickers. You will define how each themed map looks, feels, and works, from the moment a student unlocks it to the way they explore it, and work directly with the founding team to take ideas from sketch to shipped product.
What you will do
- Design the themed map experience end to end: unlocking with a sticker, browsing a student’s collection, and exploring each map
- Give every theme its own visual identity (color, iconography, map styling) while keeping it recognizably Campus Corners
- Design how places, events, and Sparko appear within each themed map
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs in Figma
- Build a reusable system of components and templates so new themed maps can be launched quickly
- Test designs with students and turn findings into design changes
- Work closely with developers to make sure designs are built as intended, and with the sticker design side so each sticker and its map feel like a pair
What we are looking for
- A portfolio showing mobile or web product design work
- Proficiency in Figma
- Strong visual design skills, especially in building distinct themes within one consistent system
- A solid grasp of interaction design, visual hierarchy, and accessibility
- Comfort working in a small, fast-moving team with a lot of ownership
Nice to have
- Experience designing map-based or location-based products
- Illustration, character design, or game UI experience
- Experience designing collection or unlock mechanics
- Familiarity with front-end development (HTML/CSS, React, or similar)
Details
- Commitment: less than 5 hours
- Compensation: unpaid volunteer role, potentially paid
