Senior Mainframe Network & Security Engineer (IBM z/OS)

Overview

Senior Mainframe Network & Security Engineer to support and enhance its enterprise IBM z/OS infrastructure. This role requires deep expertise in IBM z15/zSeries environments , mainframe networking , z/OS UNIX System Services (USS) , and mainframe security . The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and resiliency of Client’s mission-critical mainframe platforms and associated network services.

The position will work closely with infrastructure, security, middleware, application, storage, and operations teams to design, implement, and support secure and highly available enterprise solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Mainframe Network Administration

• Administer and support z/OS network infrastructure, including:
• TCP/IP
• Enterprise Extender (EE)
• VTAM
• SNA
• TN3270
• NJE
• OSA network technologies
• Monitor and troubleshoot network performance, connectivity, and routing issues.
• Configure and maintain network security controls for internal and external connectivity.
• Support high-availability and disaster recovery networking solutions.

USS (UNIX System Services) Administration

• Administer and support z/OS UNIX System Services (USS) environments.
• Manage USS file systems, permissions, user access, and directory structures.
• Support automation and scripting using Shell, REXX, and other z/OS tools.
• Troubleshoot USS-related application and infrastructure issues.

Security & Compliance

• Manage digital certificates, PKI infrastructure, and SSL/TLS implementation across the mainframe environment.
• Support secure data transfer solutions including:
• SFTP
• FTPS
• SSH
• Managed File Transfer (MFT)
• Partner with Cybersecurity teams to implement and maintain security standards, controls, and audit requirements.
• Support vulnerability remediation and regulatory compliance initiatives.

Systems Engineering & Operations

• Provide advanced support for IBM z/OS operating systems and related subsystems.
• Assist with system upgrades, maintenance activities, and vendor product implementations.
• Participate in root-cause analysis and resolution of complex infrastructure incidents.
• Support disaster recovery testing, planning, and execution.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and architectural standards.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior team members.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience supporting IBM z/OS enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in:
• z/OS Systems Programming and Administration
• IBM Mainframe Networking
• TCP/IP Configuration and Troubleshooting
• VTAM, SNA, NJE, and Enterprise Extender
• z/OS UNIX System Services (USS)
• SSL/TLS Certificates and Digital Certificate Management
• SFTP, SSH, FTPS, and Secure File Transfer Technologies
• Experience supporting IBM z15 or equivalent IBM Z platforms.
• Strong understanding of disaster recovery, high availability, and business continuity practices.
• Experience working in large enterprise production environments.
