Job Description
Syntagma Labs is opening applications for our intensive, 3-week quantitative development cohort. This rigorous track bridges the gap between basic academic programming and institutional-grade algorithmic execution.
Selected participants will earn the title of Quant Development Trainee and secure verified, professional work references from our research lab to significantly accelerate early-career placement.
Key Program Milestones & Curriculum
Week 1: Foundations of Quant, Financial & Crypto Markets
- The Quant Toolkit: Master numerical optimization using NumPy (contiguous memory blocks & the Golden Rule of Vectorization) and advanced pandas time-series handling (transforming high-frequency tick data into custom candles).
- Market Microstructure: Analyze the anatomy of a “Tick” (Trade vs. Quote data), order book dynamics, liquidity layers, and the structural differences in tick size between TradFi and Crypto.
- Practical Projects: Clean raw OHLCV datasets, build vectorized volatility calculators, and evaluate bid-ask spreads while filtering for “bad prints.”
Week 2: Signals & Applied Machine Learning
- Signal Architecture: Construct and evaluate alpha signals using Trend Following (Moving Average Crossovers), Mean Reversion (Pairs Trading), and Arbitrage frameworks.
- Predictive Modeling: Deploy Logistic Regression, Random Forests, and XGBoost on real financial time-series. Learn to militantly defend against look-ahead bias (data leakage) and resolve the Stationarity Problem.
- Performance Grading: Implement Walk-Forward Analysis, backtest equity curves, and grade risk using Sharpe Ratios and CAPM (Alpha vs. Beta).
Week 3: Applied Quant Methods & Data Engineering
- The High-Frequency Pipeline: Build robust execution pipelines utilizing stateless REST APIs alongside real-time WebSocket “firehoses.” Implement Apache Kafka to decouple data ingestion from downstream processing.
- System Reliability & Storage: Identify pipeline stalls and manage backpressure. Learn modern storage philosophies (AWS Timestream vs. specialized kdb+ architectures including Ticker Plants, RDB, and HDB) while tracking pipeline metrics via Grafana.
- Capstone Execution: Design or build a mini-pipeline in Python that streams live prices, validates tick health, and handles network/API disconnects gracefully.
Candidate Eligibility Criteria
To ensure a high-velocity environment, applicants must meet the following baselines:
- Foundational proficiency in Python, core data structures, and utilizing AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Claude).
- A solid background in statistics, probability, and linear algebra.
- Ability to commit to the intensive track
About Syntagma Labs
