Job Description

Metric Environmental (Metric) is an environmental consulting firm based in Indianapolis that helps communities, businesses, and government agencies manage environmental risks, comply with regulations, and reduce the environmental impacts of their operations. Our work supports infrastructure, land development, redevelopment, and public and private projects by identifying environmental challenges early and helping clients move forward safely and efficiently.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Project Manager for our Assessment + Remediation Division who thrives at the intersection of fieldwork, technical analysis, and strategic decision-making. In this role, you will lead environmental projects focused on assessment (Phase I and II ESAs) and cleanup of contaminated sites. In addition to managing and completing field investigations, you will be engaged in mentoring emerging professionals and collaborating with clients and regulators to deliver high-quality, compliant outcomes. If you are energized by solving real-world environmental challenges and bring a disciplined approach to managing timelines, budgets, and client expectations, you will find this position a natural fit for your expertise. Success in this role comes from organization, accountability, and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage Phase I & II ESA projects from proposal through completion
  • Oversee field investigations and technical staff
  • Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection and/or field assignments
  • Collect environmental monitoring samples such as soils, groundwater, industrial wastewater, asbestos products, noise and industrial hygiene air monitoring by performing field measurements, recording data and setting up sampling instrumentation
  • Develop scopes of work, cost estimates, and proposals
  • Perform regulatory and technical research as needed to support project objectives
  • Interpret environmental data and guide remedial strategies for noise, soil, air, stormwater and groundwater
  • Perform Construction Administration and Construction Phase Inspections
  • Coordinate with clients, regulators, and subcontractors
  • Ensure project delivery within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Mentor junior staff (Staff Scientists, APMs)
  • Support business development and client retention

What We’re Looking For:

  • Demonstrated experience managing ESAs and site investigations
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Federal)
  • Ability to conduct field work (in some instances for long hours and during all seasonal weather conditions)
  • Bachelor’s degree (Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering)
  • 5–8 years of environmental consulting experience
  • Ability to interpret laboratory analytical reports.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil engineering drawings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prepare technical reports.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve the goals and schedule of a project
  • Proficient computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook).
