Job Description
We are looking to expand our team of expert consultants with 15 published fiction writers for part-time, fully remote work supporting frontier AI research. Projects start at $40-80 USD per hour, with higher rates for experts with standout credentials.
This role includes stress-testing leading AI models on real creative writing tasks, creating and verifying complex prompts and craft explanations in your area of expertise, and assessing whether AI-generated prose meets the standards of a working fiction writer.
About Aligned
At Aligned, we partner with the world’s leading AI labs to push the frontier of AI knowledge in fields like STEM, medicine, finance, and the humanities. Our platform matches subject-matter experts (like you) with paid consulting work on frontier projects at these labs.
Who We’re Looking For
You are a published fiction writer, and you can explain why a piece of prose works: how voice, structure, pacing, and character come together on the page, not just whether a sentence reads well.
Ideal backgrounds include
- Novelists and short story writers published by traditional or independent presses
- Writers published in literary magazines, journals, or anthologies
- Genre fiction authors (literary, science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romance, horror, and others)
- Writers with an MFA in fiction or who teach creative writing
- Award winners, finalists, and writers with critical recognition or a dedicated readership
Minimum Qualifications
- Fluent English reading and writing skills
- Published fiction: at least one novel, novella, short story collection, or short fiction in a recognized press, magazine, journal, or anthology
- Substantial experience writing long-form or short-form prose fiction
- Able to explain craft decisions in writing, not only produce good prose
Please note
This role is for prose fiction writers. Screenwriters, playwrights, and other script writers are not a fit for this particular role unless they also have published prose fiction.
