Job Description
Job description:
U.S. citizenship is required by the federal engagement supporting this role. Candidates must reside in and perform all work from within the United States. Work is remote, although occasional approved travel may be required. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Lanthos is hiring a Junior Software Engineer to join a small delivery team building secure cloud and AI applications on Google Cloud for a regulated public-sector program. This is an entry-level, hands-on role for someone one to two years out of school (or an equivalent bootcamp, internship or co-op background) who wants to learn how production software is built, tested, secured and shipped on Google Cloud.
You will work alongside senior engineers who own the architecture. You are not expected to have done this before; you are expected to write clean code, ask good questions, test your work, document what you did and improve quickly.
What you’ll do
- Build and maintain application features in Python and/or TypeScript within established patterns set by senior engineers.
- Implement REST API endpoints, front-end components, data-processing scripts and integration code from clear specifications.
- Write unit and integration tests, fix bugs and take part in code review.
- Deploy and run services on Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Pub/Sub) with guidance, using Git-based workflows and CI/CD.
- Add logging, basic monitoring and clear implementation notes so your work can be reviewed and handed off.
- Support AI application features (Gemini on Vertex AI, retrieval and search workflows) under the direction of senior engineers.
- Follow the program’s security, accessibility and documentation standards and keep evidence of testing for security review.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical training, completed within roughly the last one to three years.
- One to two years of professional, internship, co-op or substantial project experience writing software in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript or Java.
- Working knowledge of Git, REST APIs, SQL and basic testing.
- Ability to explain your own code and technical decisions clearly, in writing and in conversation.
- Willingness to learn Google Cloud services and work within a structured, reviewed delivery process.
Preferred qualifications (a big plus)
- Hands-on Google Cloud experience of any kind: coursework, a personal project, an internship or a job — especially Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, BigQuery, Firebase or Vertex AI.
- A Google Cloud Digital Leader, Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Developer certification, or active progress toward one.
- Experience with Docker, containers or a CI/CD tool such as GitHub Actions or Cloud Build.
- Experience with React/Next.js, FastAPI/Django or Spring Boot.
- Exposure to LLM, RAG or AI-assistant projects (Gemini, Vertex AI or comparable).
- A public GitHub portfolio or capstone project you can walk us through.
Federal program requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must reside in and perform all work from within the United States.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the required MBI/Public Trust suitability determination.
- Must be willing to complete required fingerprinting, identity verification, security and privacy training and applicable compliance checks.
Compensation and engagement
- $80,000 - $90,000 per year, based on relevant experience and demonstrated skills.
- Full-time W-2 employee position with Lanthos LLC (not a contract or 1099 engagement), 40 hours per week, remote within the United States.
- Structured onboarding and mentoring from senior engineers, with a defined path to a mid-level role.
- Third-party staffing submissions are not accepted.
Interview process
- Initial conversation covering eligibility, availability and role expectations.
- Practical technical interview: a short coding exercise in your preferred language, plus a walkthrough of a project you personally built (school, internship or personal).
- Team conversation covering communication, learning approach and regulated-program fit.
Lanthos LLC is an equal opportunity employer. The citizenship and suitability requirements above are imposed by the federal engagement supporting this position.
