Job Description
1. Role Context
- The requirement is for the Simulation & Modelling team, which supports process engineers.
-
The team owns a simulation solution that:
- Receives real-time/time-series data from plants.
- Uses an industrial simulation/calculation engine.
-
Compares calculated/simulated data against real-time plant data.
- Since process engineers rely on these calculations for plant-related decisions, the application is considered business-critical with very limited room for errors.
- The new hire is expected to be a senior and technically strong software engineer, capable of independently understanding complex systems, troubleshooting issues in depth and eventually taking a broader leadership role within the development team.
- The immediate requirement is for one FTE position.
2. Key Technical Requirements
The following skills were identified as critical:
-
C# / .NET Core
- Strong hands-on experience with .NET Core and current .NET technologies.
-
Strong backend development capability.
-
Microsoft Azure High Priority
- Azure is one of the most important requirements along with .NET.
- Candidates should demonstrate actual hands-on experience with specific Azure services rather than merely mentioning “Azure” in the CV.
-
Relevant Azure services include:
- Azure App Service
- Azure Key Vault
- Azure Functions
- Azure Cosmos DB
- Azure Kubernetes Service
- Azure Container Registry
-
Azure App Registration
-
Azure Application Ownership
- Developers are expected to manage applications across the complete lifecycle.
-
Candidate should understand:
- Provisioning
- Configuration
- Application registration
- Deployment
-
Ongoing application management
-
CI/CD / DevOps
- Candidate should understand CI/CD pipelines beyond merely executing or monitoring existing pipelines.
-
Should be capable of creating pipelines from scratch, particularly when owning a new application/component.
-
Cosmos DB / NoSQL
- Hands-on experience is required.
-
Candidate should understand:
- Query optimisation
- Database design/components
- Addition of new database components
-
General NoSQL concepts
-
Angular
- Angular exposure is required, but it is not the primary selection criterion.
- A strong backend engineer with workable Angular knowledge can be considered.
3. Skill Priority
The agreed priority is broadly:
- Azure
- C# / .NET Core
- Backend development
- CI/CD / DevOps
- Cosmos DB / NoSQL
- Angular
The role should therefore be treated primarily as a strong backend + Azure engineering position with full-stack exposure, rather than as a frontend-heavy role.
4. Experience Requirement - 7–10 years
5. Candidate Profile / Behavioural Expectations
Apart from technical skills, the candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to quickly understand complex applications and go into technical depth.
- Strong coding/programming capability.
- Ability to gain the trust of the existing team.
- Stability and likelihood of remaining with the team for a reasonable period.
- Potential to eventually lead other developers.
- Ability to independently own components/applications rather than depend heavily on other teams.
