Title: Power BI Developer

Location: Remote; Candidate must be local to Colorado

We’re looking for a skilled Power BI Developer seeking a skilled Power BI Developer to assist with BI Program. Ideally will have expertise in the following technical areas aspects:

What You’ll Do

Requirements Gathering

• Collaborate with business stakeholders and data analysts to define reporting needs, objectives, and underlying data models
• Identify relevant data sources and attributes for modeling
• Reverse-engineer existing Excel-based processes (formulas, pivot tables) to translate manual workflows into optimized data models

Data Modeling

• Design and document conceptual, logical, and physical data models
• Implement row- and column-level security within Power BI semantic models
• Build reusable semantic data models
• Apply Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer for modeling/DAX standards
• Create and optimize table relationships and data structures

Data Source Connectivity

• Connect to diverse data sources: APIs, BigQuery, ArcGIS (maps/feature layers), SQL databases, Excel files, and streaming datasets
• Ensure clean data extraction and transformation
• Coordinate with internal integrations teams on available patterns

DAX & Report Development

• Write DAX formulas, calculated columns, measures, and custom calculations
• Design interactive, visually compelling dashboards with slicers, drill-through, and streaming/ArcGIS visuals
• Optimize report and model performance using DAX Studio and built-in Power BI tools

Power BI Service & Deployment

• Publish reports to Power BI Service
• Manage access controls and automate refresh schedules
• Optimize performance for large datasets

Collaboration

• Work cross-functionally to gather requirements and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Present data insights clearly to non-technical audiences
• Lead/support working sessions, backlog reviews, and evolving requirement discussions

Requirements

• Strong hands-on Power BI development experience (modeling, DAX, report design, deployment)
• Intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, pivot tables)
• Experience with Azure DevOps for source/version control
• Comfort working with AI tools to enhance data workflows (Google AI tools a plus)
• Excellent communication skills for technical/non-technical audience translation
• Must be based in Colorado and available for occasional on-site meetings
