Lead Java Developer

Swoon is actively hiring a Lead Java Developer to join the team!

What your day-to-day will look like?

• Design, build, and maintain large-scale data pipelines using Scala and Apache Spark to support merchandising, planning, allocation, and replenishment systems.
• Develop and support real-time data streaming solutions using Kafka, ensuring accurate and reliable movement of high-volume business data across platforms.
• Create and enhance backend applications, microservices, and APIs using Java (Spring Boot) and NodeJS to support merchandising and integration initiatives.
• Partner with product managers, business stakeholders, and architects to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and platform enhancements.
• Lead modernization efforts by migrating legacy integrations and ETL processes from platforms such as Talend and Common Product into modern event-driven and API-based architectures.
• Perform code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization across data pipelines, applications, databases, and integration services to ensure platform stability and reliability.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to drive technical design decisions, mentor junior developers, and contribute to CI/CD, cloud adoption, and overall platform improvement initiatives.

What’s Required / Technical Skills

• 5+ years of strong hands-on experience developing large-scale data platforms using Scala, Apache Spark, Kafka, SQL, and DB2, with the ability to build and optimize high-volume data processing solutions.
• 5+ years of experience in backend application development using Java (Spring Boot) and NodeJS, including building microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven integrations.
• 5+ years of experience with frontend technologies such as JavaScript and Angular, enabling support of full-stack development and integration modernization initiatives.
• Knowledge of data integration, ETL, cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, or similar), CI/CD pipelines, Git version control, and modern software engineering best practices.
• Preferred experience leading or contributing to legacy platform modernization efforts, including migrations from tools such as Talend, implementation of event-driven architectures, and exposure to retail, merchandising, or supply chain technology environments.

Hourly Rate - $45-55 an hour
