Federal AI Self-Paced Instructor/SME (Contract)
Independent Contractor (1099) • Remote • Flexible, Project-Based
About us
Graduate School USA (GSUSA) provides professional training for the federal workforce. We’re building self-paced online courses on AI for government, from AI literacy and prompt design through building AI-powered applications and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems for agencies, and need an experienced AI practitioner to record the course videos.
The role
- Review our finished scripts and course materials for accuracy before recording.
- Record short instructional videos (each about 4 minutes or less) delivering the scripts on camera, using the core recording equipment we supply.
- Record the first video for our approval before recording the rest of the course, so we lock in the style up front.
- Make reasonable revisions and re-records at no extra cost until each video is accepted.
- Work one course at a time on a flexible schedule we agree to together.
Who you are
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience working with AI, whether as a practitioner, developer, data scientist, consultant, or instructor. This is the only hard requirement.
- Comfortable and clear presenting on camera, with a quiet, professional space to record in (we supply the core recording equipment).
- Federal or public-sector experience, and a credential such as AWS Certified AI Practitioner, Microsoft Azure AI Engineer (AI-102), Google Professional Machine Learning Engineer, or IAPP AI Governance Professional (AIGP), are a plus.
AI knowledge we’re looking for
You should be able to speak credibly, and catch obvious errors, across most of the following:
- Generative AI and large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot, including how they work, where they fail, and how to evaluate their output.
- Prompt design and reasoning strategies: role and context setting, few-shot examples, chain-of-thought, structured outputs, and iterative refinement.
- Applying AI to everyday government work: writing and briefings, communications and public affairs, data analysis in Excel and Power BI, and workflow automation.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot and other enterprise AI assistants in a government (GCC) environment.
- Building AI solutions: Python, calling model APIs, agents and tool use, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) over agency knowledge bases, including embeddings, vector search, and evaluation.
- Cloud AI platforms such as Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, and Google Vertex AI, and what FedRAMP authorization means for agency adoption.
- Responsible and trustworthy AI: bias, hallucination, data privacy and security, human oversight, and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
- The federal AI policy landscape: OMB M-25-21 and M-25-22, agency AI use-case inventories, and Chief AI Officer responsibilities.
Compensation
- Approximately $35 to $65 per hour.
- Independent-contractor (1099) engagement: you set your own hours and handle your own taxes.
