About the Role

Next XR is looking for an AWS Cloud Engineer with 2+ years of hands-on production experience with AWS to help build, automate, maintain, and optimise our cloud infrastructure.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with AWS services, Infrastructure as Code, cloud networking, security, monitoring, CI/CD, and troubleshooting production environments. You will work closely with application and engineering teams to ensure our infrastructure remains secure, reliable, scalable, and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Automation

• Provision and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Build reusable infrastructure modules and maintain consistent development, staging, and production environments.
• Automate routine infrastructure and operational tasks using Python, Bash, AWS CLI, or AWS SDK.
• Support AWS account and environment management while maintaining appropriate separation and access controls.

AWS Cloud Operations

• Configure and manage AWS services including EC2, Auto Scaling, Lambda, ECS/EKS, S3, RDS, and DynamoDB.
• Design, configure, and troubleshoot AWS networking components such as VPCs, subnets, security groups, route tables, NAT gateways, and VPC peering.
• Manage IAM roles, policies, permissions, and identity federation following least-privilege principles.
• Configure load balancing and DNS using ALB/NLB and Route 53.
• Monitor and maintain cloud resources to ensure availability, performance, and reliability.

Monitoring & Reliability

• Set up monitoring, dashboards, logging, and alerts using Amazon CloudWatch and other monitoring tools.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure and application-related production issues.
• Participate in incident response and contribute to root-cause analysis and post-incident improvements.
• Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures.

CI/CD & Deployment

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or AWS CodePipeline.
• Work with Docker and Amazon ECR for containerised application deployments.
• Support rolling, blue-green, and controlled deployment strategies.
• Ensure reliable deployment and rollback processes.

Security & Cost Optimisation

• Implement AWS security best practices, including encryption, secure credential management, and least-privilege access.
• Use services such as AWS Secrets Manager and Parameter Store for secure configuration management.
• Monitor AWS infrastructure costs and identify opportunities for optimisation.
• Maintain appropriate resource tagging and help improve cloud cost visibility.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of hands-on AWS experience in a production environment.
• Strong working knowledge of core AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, Lambda, and CloudWatch.
• Practical experience with at least one Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool, preferably Terraform.
• Ability to automate operational tasks using Python, Bash, AWS CLI, or AWS SDK.
• Good working knowledge of Linux, including processes, permissions, system services, logs, and basic troubleshooting.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including CIDR, routing, DNS, TLS, firewalls, and security groups.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and container-based deployments.
• Familiarity with Git and CI/CD workflows.
• Ability to troubleshoot infrastructure issues and identify root causes.
• Good understanding of cloud security and access management.
• Ability to document infrastructure, maintain runbooks, and communicate technical decisions clearly.
