About The Role The Sr. Lead AI Engineer at Capital One plays a pivotal role within the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team, which is central to realizing the company’s vision for AI. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams comprising engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers to develop and deploy AI-powered solutions that significantly impact how customers and associates interact with Capital One. Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, testing, and supporting sophisticated AI software components such as foundation models, large language models, similarity search algorithms, and governance frameworks. You will utilize a broad spectrum of open-source and SaaS AI technologies, including AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch, to build scalable, responsible, and high-performance AI systems. Additionally, you will contribute to shaping the technical vision and long-term roadmap for foundational AI systems, ensuring they align with business objectives and industry best practices. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation and a passion for building impactful AI systems. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with at least six years of experience in developing AI and ML algorithms is required. Alternatively, a Master’s degree with at least four years of relevant experience is acceptable. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Scala, or Java is essential, with a minimum of six years of hands-on experience. Preferred qualifications include seven or more years of deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, and experience designing complex AI systems from conception to deployment. Demonstrated leadership skills in mentoring engineering teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders are highly valued. Candidates should have a deep understanding of state-of-the-art AI techniques, including large language models inference, similarity search, vector databases, and optimization algorithms. Strong communication skills to articulate complex AI concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences are also important.

Responsibilities

• Research and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve scalability, latency, throughput, and cost-efficiency of AI systems.
