Job Description

Creighton Manning, a GAI Consultants Company Albany, NY · Hybrid · Full-time

$55–$70/hour, based on experience · Approximately 25% travel · Relocation assistance

available

Manage the highway projects that keep New York moving.

Creighton Manning is excited to hire an experienced Transportation Project Manager to lead highway design projects from our Albany office. This is a true project management role. You will own client relationships, run multiple projects at once across basic, intermediate, and complex levels, lead QA/QC, and mentor project and staff engineers in an active New York transportation market.

What You Will Do

As a transportation project manager, you will deliver highway design and roadway improvement projects for state, county, and municipal clients across New York. Your work will span roadway geometry and drainage design, traffic signal design, traffic impact studies, long-range transportation planning, and transit planning — guiding projects from preliminary design through NYSDOT design approval and construction support. You will also lead public meetings, coordinate multidiscipline teams, and develop the proposals that keep the practice growing.

  • Serve as the day-to-day client contact and lead project and public meetings.
  • Act as concurrent project manager across basic, intermediate, and complex projects, managing staffing, scheduling, budgets, and billing.
  • Review project documents for conformity and lead QA/QC.
  • Coordinate multidiscipline project teams and provide technical guidance to Engineer I–IV staff.
  • Develop intermediate and complex proposals, attend proposal interviews, and represent the firm at industry conferences and business development activities.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or approved equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure strongly preferred; additional engineering experience may be substituted.
  • Active membership in a professional practice organization.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% and work occasional hours outside the standard schedule to meet client deadlines and attend evening public meetings.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Experience

  • NYSDOT, NYSTA, municipal, or county agency project experience.
  • Traffic signal design or transportation planning depth.
  • Business development or proposal leadership.
  • Involvement in ACEC, NYSATE, ASCE, ITE, or APWA.

Who Tends to Succeed Here

This role fits licensed civil engineers who have moved beyond roadway design production into full project delivery leadership. Candidates often come from consulting engineering firms or a state department of transportation, with backgrounds as a senior project engineer, roadway design engineer, highway engineer, or transportation engineering manager. Working knowledge of NYSDOT design standards, MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and construction inspection or construction management support is helpful — but what matters most is your ability to balance technical quality, schedule, budget, and client expectations across several concurrent

projects.

Perks and Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Company-paid life insurance and short- and long-term disability
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible schedule and generous paid time off
  • Seven paid holidays plus one floating holiday
  • Paid parental and adoption leave
  • Relocation assistance
  • Tuition reimbursement and licensing/certification support
  • Employee Assistance Program
