Job Description
Lafayette, Indiana Area
Quality Plumbing & Heating is seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Project Manager to lead major commercial plumbing and mechanical projects in the Lafayette area.
This is not a position for someone who simply tracks paperwork and reacts to problems. We are looking for a project leader who understands the financial, contractual, and operational heartbeat of a project—and who identifies risks while there is still time to change the outcome.
The Project Manager owns the successful management of assigned projects from award through closeout, working closely with field leadership, foremen, estimating, BIM and fabrication, finance, vendors, general contractors, and customers.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual compensation of $110,000–$150,000, based on experience and qualifications
- Company vehicle
- 100% QPH-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums for employees
- Paid time off
- Seven paid holidays
What You’ll Own
- Overall management of assigned Plan & Specification projects
- Project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and WIP accuracy
- Project schedules, milestones, and customer commitments
- Change-order identification, pricing, documentation, negotiation, and recovery
- Procurement planning, including long-lead materials and equipment
- Contract administration and protection of QPH’s contractual interests
- RFIs, submittals, project documentation, and closeout requirements
- Timely and accurate billing coordination
- Visibility into accounts receivable, retention, and unbilled work
- Relationships with general contractors, owners, design teams, and vendors
- Early identification and escalation of financial, schedule, and operational risks
- Leadership and development of assigned project-support personnel
How You’ll Work With the Field
At QPH, the Project Manager owns the project while Field Leadership owns daily field execution.
You will work directly with our VP of Field Labor, Field Superintendent, and Foremen to ensure they understand the project scope, schedule, labor assumptions, procurement status, customer expectations, and emerging risks. You will seek field input before making commitments that affect execution and incorporate actual jobsite conditions into project planning and forecasting.
The strongest candidates will know how to lead the project without micromanaging the craft professionals performing the work.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- At least five years of construction project-management experience involving projects valued at more than $10 million
- Experience managing commercial mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, or specialty-construction projects
- Strong understanding of construction budgets, cost forecasting, WIP, and cost-to-complete projections
- Working knowledge of contracts, change orders, RFIs, submittals, scheduling, billing, and project closeout
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with general contractors, field leaders, foremen, vendors, and internal support teams
- Strong organizational, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Sound judgment and the willingness to surface difficult information early
- A proactive leadership style grounded in accountability and collaboration
- Experience leading or developing project coordinators or project-support personnel preferred
- Commercial mechanical-construction experience strongly preferred
What Success Looks Like
- Project forecasts reflect current project conditions and anticipated costs.
- Financial, contractual, and schedule risks are identified early.
- Scope changes become timely, documented, and recoverable change orders.
- Procurement and project communication support successful field execution.
- Customer relationships remain strong while QPH’s contractual and financial interests are protected.
- Projects are properly documented and closed out completely and on time.
