About Polaris Advisors

Polaris Advisors is a technology and professional services company that connects highly skilled professionals with organizations looking for specialized technical expertise. We support clients across healthcare, technology, and other complex enterprise environments by providing experienced talent for critical technology initiatives and infrastructure projects.

About Our Client

Our client is a leading academic healthcare organization in New York with a large and complex technology environment supporting multiple hospitals and healthcare facilities. Their infrastructure team is looking for a Data Center Engineer to provide hands-on support across their data center environment while contributing to network and infrastructure projects.

About the Role

We are looking for a Network Deployment Engineer to join a dedicated network and infrastructure operations team supporting a large-scale healthcare environment.

This is a hands-on role ideal for an engineer focused on coordinating and executing Cisco Catalyst access switch upgrades, including server patching, fiber and copper cabling, labeling, documentation, cross-connects, and physical infrastructure support. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Cisco campus and access layer environments (Cisco Catalyst series), hardware refreshes, and, at a higher level, exposure to Cisco Nexus/NX-OS and cloud connectivity.

Note: The client is open to candidates with different levels of experience, provided they have strong hands-on networking and hardware upgrade skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cisco Switch Upgrades: Coordinate and execute Cisco Catalyst access switch upgrades, replacements, and hardware refresh projects across campus and enterprise locations.
  • Hands-on Network & Infrastructure Support: Perform hands-on network operations, including rack/stack, server patching, labeling, cabling (fiber and copper), and documentation.
  • Connectivity & Troubleshooting: Install, replace, and troubleshoot fiber and copper connections, as well as perform and document network cross-connects.
  • Data Center & Cloud Initiatives: Support Cisco network equipment in a large-scale enterprise environment. Assist with Cisco Nexus deployments, cloud connectivity, and cloud on-ramp initiatives involving platforms such as Equinix and Megaport.
  • Process & Collaboration: Maintain accurate documentation of network topology, infrastructure, and connectivity. Collaborate closely with network, infrastructure, cloud, and application teams while adhering to established change-management processes in a mission-critical healthcare setting.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on network engineering and physical infrastructure experience.
  • Proven experience coordinating and executing Cisco Catalyst switch upgrades and refreshes.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber and copper cabling, server patching, rack/stack, labeling, and cross-connects.
  • Direct experience working with Cisco networking equipment (access/distribution layers).
  • Ability to work onsite in New York 2 days per week .
  • Strong verbal/written communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Cisco Nexus / NX-OS in enterprise or data center environments.
  • Experience with Equinix, Megaport, or other cloud connectivity/on-ramp solutions (AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Prior experience in large enterprise, healthcare, or highly regulated/mission-critical environments.
  • Active CCNA, CCNP, or relevant Cisco certifications.

What We’re Looking For

We are especially interested in candidates who are comfortable being hands-on with network hardware and can independently coordinate switch upgrades and troubleshoot physical infrastructure. Candidates with strong network deployment experience are encouraged to apply, even if they do not meet every senior-level cloud or architecture requirement.
