Key Requirements
Strong GCP / Google Cloud Platform experience
Hands-on Agentic AI / AI Agents / LLM experience
Principal/Staff-level Platform Engineering or Architecture experience
Experience defining technical strategy, product roadmaps, and platform direction
Enterprise Data Platform experience; BigQuery is a plus
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to influence architecture, drive adoption, and provide technical direction

Position Overview
Ford is seeking a Principal AI Platform Engineer with a strong product mindset to help shape a rapidly evolving enterprise AI platform initiative. This role sits at the intersection of AI platform engineering, architecture, product strategy, and business alignment.
The ideal candidate has the technical depth to engage as a peer with principal engineers, architects, and senior developers while also defining roadmaps, translating business needs, and driving adoption. This is not a traditional Product Manager role or a pure data science position. The successful candidate will combine strategic product leadership with hands-on engineering capability.
The platform is currently driven primarily by engineering considerations, creating an opportunity to introduce a stronger product and business perspective without compromising technical rigor.
About the Initiative
The team is developing an enterprise platform that enables organizational data and knowledge to be accessed by AI agents and queried through natural language. Current and planned capabilities include:
Enterprise data warehouse capabilities, including BigQuery-based solutions
Data ingestion, access, and governance processes
Knowledge catalogs and knowledge graphs
Natural-language data discovery and querying
Agentic AI development, enablement, orchestration, and optimization
Enterprise knowledge management capabilities
Developer productivity and code intelligence solutions
The platform must evolve from a technically sound engineering solution into a product that is intuitive, adoptable, and aligned with measurable business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap Ownership
Define and influence the strategic roadmap for the enterprise AI platform.
Gather input from business stakeholders, architects, engineering leaders, and executive sponsors.
Organize loosely defined ideas and business needs into prioritized, actionable platform initiatives.
Balance business value, user adoption, technical feasibility, and long-term platform strategy.
Define value propositions, success measures, and iterative delivery priorities for platform capabilities.
Drive alignment across multiple workstreams and stakeholder groups.
AI Platform & Technical Leadership
Engage in architecture reviews and deep technical discussions with principal engineers, architects, and senior developers.
Evaluate platform tradeoffs involving agent registries, orchestration approaches, governance, scalability, and build-versus-buy decisions.
Shape how enterprise data and knowledge are exposed to and consumed by AI agents.
Provide technical leadership across agentic AI development, agent architecture, multi-agent patterns, and agent optimization.
Influence data ingestion, data access, knowledge catalog, knowledge graph, and AI platform design decisions.
Contribute hands-on development, technical prototypes, design reviews, and proof-of-concept work when needed.
