As our new Software Product Assurance Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and safety of software throughout the spacecraft development lifecycle. You will define and evolve software product assurance requirements, adapted to lean and agile development practices, while applying a criticality-based approach where the level of rigour is aligned with the safety and mission impact of each software item.

You will work closely with software, systems, hardware, AIT, Product Assurance and supplier teams to ensure that software development, verification, configuration management and change control activities meet the required quality and product assurance standards.

It’s an exciting chance to join a dynamic start-up, with the opportunity to make a real impact, to reach our goal of pushing the boundaries of space data transfer.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve software product assurance requirements across the development lifecycle, adapted to lean and agile development practices.
  • Apply a criticality-based approach to software product assurance, scaling the level of rigour according to the safety and mission impact of the software item.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and review Software Product Assurance (SW PA) plans.
  • Oversee and participate in verification and validation (V&V) activities according to defined V&V plans.
  • Support Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) activities, working with IV&V personnel to mitigate software risks and enhance safety and quality.
  • Help drive internal and external reviews of development plans and software designs to ensure seamless integration with the satellite system.
  • Participate in the analysis and evaluation of software designs, including change impact analysis and regression testing, particularly for COTS software.
  • Support Product Assurance activities across engineering and flight models and associated infrastructure, ensuring documentation and objective evidence are captured consistently.
  • Contribute to estimating and tracking the expected reliability and availability of the satellite platform as part of Product Assurance reporting.
  • Support Product Assurance follow-up on supplier discrepancies and defects, ensuring corrective actions are documented and tracked.
  • Support engineering change control, including understanding the Class I / Class II concept and ensuring the required approvals are obtained.
  • Be willing to travel to supplier facilities for audits when required.

Skills And Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in aerospace, electronics, information technology, systems engineering, or a similar relevant field.
  • Knowledge of software development processes and lifecycles.
  • Knowledge of software verification techniques, including testing and inspections.
  • Knowledge of software configuration management fundamentals and related tools.
  • Clear conceptual understanding of the difference between proactive Product Assurance and retrospective Quality Control.
  • Familiarity with non-conformances, deviations, waivers, and corrective/preventive actions, including RCA and CAPA, at a basic level.
  • Awareness of SW Product Assurance principles and the ECSS/Q Product Assurance philosophy.
  • Ability to constructively challenge engineering decisions and ask, “What is the risk?”
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with systems, hardware, software, AIT and suppliers.
  • Clear and effective technical writing and communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Previous exposure to satellite technologies through an internship, thesis, or student satellite project (e.g. CubeSat, nanosat or payloads), with an understanding of software Product Assurance concepts such as verification matrices, test coverage and configuration management.
  • Introductory knowledge of risk management and single-point failure identification, with proficiency in C/C++ and Python and familiarity with NASA software assurance standards such as NASA-STD-8739.8 and NASA-GB-8719.13.
