Senior Python Software Engineer, Builds with AI (NYC, onsite)

Looking for a senior software engineer who writes excellent code and has been putting AI to work in real systems, for one of the most respected names in global philanthropy.
This is a serious technology group inside a well-funded, data-driven organization. Their work runs across arts, education, the environment, government innovation, and public health, in hundreds of cities worldwide. What you build ships to real programs and reaches real people.
This is not an ML or data science role. No training, fine-tuning, or optimizing models. They want a strong generalist engineer with sharp fundamentals who has already been folding AI into production work.
Who fits:
- You’ve got 8+ years writing production software (Ideally in Python) and you’re still hands-on in the code
- You’ve built agents and wired AI into real operational workflows
- You use MCPs to connect tools and data, and RAG in practice (building one from scratch isn’t required)
- You’ve automated workflows to make teams faster, and you’re comfortable setting direction for other engineers
