Job Description
Overview
Whistler Partners is working with a national law firm hiring associates across its Emerging Companies & Venture Capital practice in New York, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area. The team is hiring across levels, with the biggest need from mid-level through senior associate.
The client base is a big part of the appeal.
This practice works with sophisticated venture-backed technology companies, including major AI unicorns, on financings, governance, growth, and the broader corporate issues that come with scaling quickly. This is true ECVC work: startups, founders, venture financings, and ongoing company-side counseling.
Why This Role?
For lawyers who want to stay close to where the technology market is moving, this is an unusually strong platform. Associates get exposure to high-growth companies across the full lifecycle rather than simply dropping into isolated transactions. The firm is open to strong lawyers from both major ECVC groups and smaller startup-focused practices if the experience is there. For the right corporate or M&A lawyer, selective retool opportunities may also be possible where there is a credible technology, growth-company, or startup story.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent startups, founders, emerging companies, and venture investors.
- Advise AI and other high-growth technology companies.
- Handle venture financings and related corporate transactions.
- Counsel clients on governance and general corporate matters.
- Draft and negotiate financing and transaction documents.
- Work directly with founders, executives, and investors.
- Take increasing ownership of transactions and client relationships as seniority increases.
About You
- Corporate associate with meaningful ECVC experience.
- Strong venture financing and general corporate background.
- Experience advising startups, founders, emerging companies, or investors.
- Strong judgment, drafting, and client-service skills.
- Candidates from both large firms and smaller startup-focused practices will be considered.
- Mid-level and senior associates with meaningful deal responsibility are especially attractive.
- Select corporate/M&A retools may be considered where the move into ECVC is credible.
TL;DR
ECVC role at a national law firm advising major AI unicorns and other sophisticated venture backed technology companies. Hiring across levels in New York, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area.
