About The Role We are seeking experienced Senior Software Engineers to join our team on a contractor basis, working approximately 15 hours per week remotely. In this role, you will support an AI training project by designing and developing reinforcement learning environments tailored for evaluating AI models on complex software engineering tasks. Your primary responsibility will be to create reproducible, deterministic environments that allow AI agents to demonstrate reasoning capabilities in scenarios such as bug fixing, feature development, code refactoring, and performance enhancement. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to pioneering AI research without requiring prior AI-specific experience, making it suitable for seasoned software engineers eager to explore AI applications in software development.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python 3, Java, Rust, C++, or TypeScript. A solid understanding of algorithms and data structures is essential, along with hands-on experience in debugging complex software issues and implementing features. Candidates should demonstrate experience in refactoring codebases, optimizing performance, and building reliable verification systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary to document solutions effectively and provide technical feedback. Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving are critical attributes for success in this role. While not mandatory, familiarity with large-scale or distributed codebases, AI/ML systems, and software engineering best practices will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Create and implement reinforcement learning environments focused on software engineering tasks such as bug fixing, feature development, refactoring, and performance tuning.
• Design and develop deterministic verification systems and establish golden reference solutions to ensure task reproducibility and reliability.
• Evaluate AI agents’ ability to reason through complex codebases and utilize Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools effectively.
• Develop realistic and challenging software engineering scenarios that accurately measure coding ability, problem-solving skills, and tool proficiency.
• Document technical solutions thoroughly, including environment setup, task instructions, and evaluation criteria.
• Provide clear and actionable technical feedback to facilitate continuous improvement of AI models and training environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine project requirements and ensure alignment with research objectives.
