The Youth Online Writers’ Web, housed in the NYU Steinhardt Department of Teaching and Learning, seeks a part-time researcher to support the project during the Fall 2026 semester. The project employs design-based research to study the development of a virtual writing center, in which prospective teachers develop their knowledge and practice of strengths-based and socioculturally-informed writing instruction by mentoring public high school students in their writing.

Position Summary

The part-time researcher will work under the direction of Dr. Sarah Beck, Professor of English Education. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Managing digital audio, video and textual data collected as part of the development of this online mentoring program for youth writers.
  • Verifying data and preparing it for analysis.
  • Assisting the project director, Dr. Beck, in analyzing data.

This is a part-time position of 12 hours per week. The position will begin in mid-September 2026 and conclude by December 31, 2026. This will be a fully remote position.

Required Experience:

  • Proficiency in using electronic tools and systems (Box, Excel/Google Sheets, Zoom)
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills, and attention to detail

Required Education:
