Company Overview
Smith & Warren is a leading domestic manufacturer renowned for producing high-quality metal public safety badges for police, fire, EMS, security, and related sectors. We are a well-established company committed to exceptional customer service and community engagement, continually growing while maintaining our dedication to quality and integrity.
About the Role
We are seeking an autonomous, hands-on IT Systems and Network Administrator to manage and maintain our local IT infrastructure. Serving as the primary onsite technical anchor for our physical facility, you will be responsible for supporting approximately 120 client computers, maintaining network hardware, and ensuring stable daily operations. This role balances hardware lifecycle management, day-to-day network administration, secure remote access, and physical facility security systems. You will work independently on-site while collaborating closely with and reporting directly to our Facility Manager and IT Manager.
Core Responsibilities
- Network & Server Administration: Manage and optimize our local network infrastructure. Administer and maintain our decentralized peer-to-peer network, Network Attached Storage (NAS) file server, and two Linux servers.
- Security & VPN Management: Maintain, configure, and secure our Cisco firewall. Set up, monitor, and troubleshoot secure VPN access for remote connectivity and site-to-site communication. Enforce network security protocols and manage software compliance licenses.
- Facility Systems Management: Oversee and troubleshoot local facility technology, including the physical VoIP phone architecture and our Lorex camera/surveillance security system.
- Cloud & Collaboration Tools: Administer and support employee accounts, permissions, and security configurations within Google Business and Dropbox environments.
- Procurement & Asset Management: Handle the end-to-end hardware lifecycle. This includes evaluating vendor options, purchasing new equipment, tracking inventory, and personally replacing or repairing failing hardware.
- End-User Support: Act as the primary, friendly on-site point of contact for staff desktop hardware, local connectivity, and standard technical troubleshooting for 120 endpoints.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3–5+ years of dedicated experience in network administration, systems administration, or a comprehensive onsite IT support role.
- Hardware & Infrastructure: Proven hands-on experience configuring and managing Cisco firewalls, routers, and VPN gateways.
- Systems Familiarity: Experience supporting peer-to-peer environments, Network Attached Storage (NAS) units, and basic Linux server administration/troubleshooting.
- Facility Tech: Prior experience managing commercial IP camera systems (Lorex preferred) and VoIP phone systems.
- Cloud Platforms: Experience administering Google Business (Google Workspace) and Dropbox Business accounts.
- Capabilities: Strong organizational skills for inventory and purchasing management, with the physical ability to swap out and repair network hardware components.
