Location: White Plains, NY – Hybrid (4 days onsite per week)

Duration: 12 months with possible extension

Pay Rate: $65–$70/hour on 1099 Tax terms

Job Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Lead Java Developer to design, develop, and deliver scalable digital platforms supporting customers, business operations, and internal users. The ideal candidate will remain actively involved in software development while providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and driving architectural and technical decisions.

You will work closely with product, architecture, quality engineering, delivery, and application operations teams to build highly available and reliable applications using modern Java, cloud, microservices, and DevOps technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, testing, implementation, and operation of scalable and highly available software applications.
• Remain hands-on by writing production code, reviewing code and designs, and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
• Translate business and product requirements into technical solutions, architecture, development plans, estimates, and priorities.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software engineers.
• Promote best practices in software design, automated testing, security, reliability, observability, and DevOps.
• Design and develop reusable technical solutions and patterns in collaboration with architecture and engineering teams.
• Balance delivery timelines with application maintainability, operational readiness, and long-term platform stability.
• Communicate technical decisions, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support the responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools across software requirements, design, development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and code reviews.
• Participate in Agile development processes and collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional Java software development experience with progressively increasing technical responsibility.
• Proven experience providing technical leadership to a team of at least 3 software engineers .
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience designing and delivering large-scale, highly available, and mission-critical applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, JEE, Spring Boot, and Microservices Architecture .
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, SQL, relational databases, and data modeling .
• Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform .
• Strong understanding of solution design, architecture, technical decision-making, and software development best practices.
• Experience working in Agile or another structured software development methodology .
• Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
