Lead Backend Developer

6 month contract + extensions

Hybrid 2x per week in Toronto

Pay: $80/hr incorp

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• 7+ years of backend software development experience.
• Proven experience in a Technical Lead or Development Lead capacity.
• Previous work experience in a large bank or financial institution
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS Lambda functions (critical requirement).
• Deep understanding of AWS serverless architecture and event-driven development.
• Experience building and supporting high-volume customer-facing digital platforms.
• Strong experience with REST APIs , microservices, and cloud-native application development.
• Experience working within large enterprise environments delivering production-scale solutions.
• Ability to balance technical leadership with hands-on coding responsibilities.
• Extensive experience leading backend development in AWS environment s, with strong hands-on AWS Lambda expertise and experience supporting customer-facing digital applications.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a highly experienced AWS Backend Development Lead to join a customer-facing digital platform initiative. This individual will provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on with development, helping drive delivery of new backend services, enhancements, and change requests within a modern cloud-native environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience delivering large-scale digital banking or online customer platforms and a strong track record building serverless applications using AWS technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead backend development efforts for customer-facing digital applications.
• Act as the technical lead for a team supporting new platform enhancements and change initiatives.
• Design, develop, and deploy scalable cloud-native solutions using AWS services.
• Provide architectural guidance and development best practices across backend services.
• Partner with product, architecture, QA, and business stakeholders to deliver features and change requests.
• Review code, mentor developers, and provide technical leadership throughout the SDLC.
• Support solution design decisions related to serverless and container-based architectures.
• Drive delivery within an Agile environment and contribute to overall program success.
