Job Description
Job Title: AI Governance & Responsible AI Specialist (Contract)
We’re looking for an AI governance specialist to help design and document responsible-AI safeguards for a public-sector AI platform serving older adults — including crisis detection, human oversight, and compliance frameworks. This is a contract role with potential to extend into full project delivery.
What You’ll Do
· Design human-in-the-loop safeguards for AI features that could affect real people’s safety (crisis/self-harm detection, emergency routing, escalation to humans)
· Define testing methodology for AI bias, hallucination, and safety failure modes
· Document data governance, model transparency, and compliance practices in plain language for non-technical stakeholders and government evaluators
· Draw clear boundaries around what AI should and shouldn’t do (e.g., avoiding anything that reads as medical diagnosis or legal advice)
Technical Skills Required
· Practical experience with LLM-based systems in production — you understand how conversational AI actually fails, not just how it’s supposed to work
· Familiarity with prompt/model evaluation methods (red-teaming, adversarial testing, accuracy/safety benchmarking)
· Working knowledge of HIPAA and health-data handling requirements
· Comfortable reading/writing technical documentation on model architecture, data flows, and API-level integrations (OpenAI API or similar LLM providers a plus)
· Understanding of audit logging, monitoring, and explainability requirements for AI-assisted decisions
Required Qualifications
· 3+ years of experience in safety-critical or regulated ML/AI systems (e.g., content moderation, clinical NLP, fraud detection, trust & safety), with meaningful hands-on experience working with LLM-based systems specifically.
· Demonstrated experience building or evaluating crisis-detection, content-moderation, or other safety-critical AI features
· Strong technical writing — able to translate AI safety practices into evaluator-friendly, non-jargon language on a tight deadline
· Available to start immediately for a proposal deadline in early September
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance/audit frameworks
· Prior work on AI governance sections of a government RFP or formal compliance proposal
· Experience with accessibility and senior/elder-focused product design
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, though not required for this specific role
Pay: $60.00 per hour
