Job Description
Credas Inc - Senior Backend Developer Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Developer to join our team. In this role, you will be owning the design, development, and maintenance of robust backend systems that power innovative web applications and services.
Your work will be helping students and the people who work with them on an everyday basis, which means you will need to be comfortable working with applications with real human impact, and safeguarding the data that these applications handle. Your expertise will drive scalable solutions, optimize system performance, and ensure data security and integrity across a number of diverse platforms.
You will be working with a small team with big impact, including a team of frontend developers who will be consuming your APIs and data structures, a QA team working on end to end automated tests, and a product team with deep knowledge of what is actually needed from this software. If this is the kind of work you want to be doing and are looking to build high-quality, efficient backend architecture, this opportunity is for you!
Duties
Develop and maintain backend systems with a stack that includes MS SQL or Postgres, Prisma, Node/Bun, GraphQL, Next.js (server side). Experience in similar technologies will also be considered, because the developer we are looking for should have skills that transfer between stacks at a higher level than programming languages (such as familiarity with design patterns and query optimizations), however our stack and your day-to-day work will be in TypeScript.
Design scalable system architecture, employing microservices and distributed systems that make use of cloud infrastructure (such as AWS or Azure) to support our growing user demands. This includes creating the infrastructure from scratch, working with an existing microservice environment, and migrating legacy monolithic code to newer patterns as needed.
Building and maintaining integrations with third party systems such as OneRoster and ClassLink, including OAuth2 client-credential flows and idempotent sync jobs.
Collaborate with a skilled frontend team who will be creating the client applications that consume your APIs and interact with the data structures that you design, and enable this back and forth by creating and maintaining useful documentation and communicating clearly.
Debug complex issues across distributed systems, codebases, and deployments.
Follow best practices in version control, use and develop CI/CD pipelines, create and maintain unit tests, and work with a QA team for end-to-end testing using JIRA and Slack to communicate.
Maintain and update legacy codebases, handle data migrations with security and data safety in mind. Familiarity with adhering to SOC 2 Type II, FERPA, COPPA is a plus.
Skills
6+ years of experience developing a variety of backend systems (not just working from the frontend and hitting API endpoints).
Proficiency in TypeScript
Strong knowledge of database design and management, with a focus on relational databases. Having worked previously with MS SQL and Postgres specifically is a plus.
Expertise in cloud infrastructure services and deploying scalable applications in cloud environments, working with various AWS technologies.
Familiarity with frontend development practices to make communication with frontend developers easier. React, Tanstack, Next.js frontend, and similar experience is a plus.
Experience working with and creating GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD workflows.
Ability to develop secure backend APIs (REST and GraphQL) with a good understanding of RBAC/ReBAC type systems.
Experience with OAuth2 and SSO on the implementation side. Auth0 experience is a plus.
Understanding of background jobs, queues, and workers, as well as clustered Redis.
Come with opinions on observability, monitoring, and tracing.
