About The Team

This is an opportunity to join a highly visible and innovative team that works directly with landfill operations teams to understand real-world challenges, rapidly prototype and build solutions, and continuously improve them based on operational feedback. The team supports a wide range of business functions including Gas, Air, Operations, Wastewater, Groundwater, Engineering, and Environmental teams.

Products include:

• A greenhouse gas and air quality analytics platform deployed at more than 200 WM sites.

• A reality capture program and 3D digital model for landfill operations that integrates operational, engineering, and spatial data into a unified view.

• A platform that aggregates operational and environmental data from numerous sources.

• New solutions developed through our Innovation Garage, where emerging ideas are rapidly tested and transformed into operational tools.

As a Frontend Developer & Designer, You Will

• Work closely with operations, engineering, environmental, and business stakeholders to understand how users interact with our products in the field.
• Translate real-world user needs into intuitive interfaces, clear information hierarchies, and polished visual experiences.
• Own the full design-to-implementation cycle from wireframes and prototypes to production-ready UI components.
• Build and maintain frontend applications using React, TypeScript, and modern web technologies.
• Establish and evolve a shared design system and component library used across products.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to design APIs and data contracts that support great user experiences.
• Use AI-assisted design and development tools to accelerate prototyping, ideation, and implementation.
• Develop deep understanding of the users, workflows, and operational contexts that our products serve.
• Contribute throughout the full product lifecycle, including design, implementation, deployment, and iteration.
• Uphold high standards for usability, accessibility, visual consistency, and frontend quality.

What Success Looks Like

Successful engineers on our team:

• Understand users and their workflows before designing solutions.
• Produce designs that are both visually coherent and practically implementable.
• Bridge design and engineering. Equally comfortable in Figma and a code editor.
• Use AI as a force multiplier without sacrificing craft or attention to detail.
• Take ownership of the end-to-end user experience, not just individual screens or components.

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of professional experience in frontend development, UI/UX design, or a hybrid role.
• Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Experience building and maintaining component libraries or design systems.
• A portfolio demonstrating both design sensibility and frontend implementation quality.
• Experience with design tools such as Figma.
• Understanding of UX principles: information architecture, interaction design, visual hierarchy, and accessibility.
• Ability to work directly with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into user-centered designs.
• Strong attention to detail and a high bar for visual and functional polish.
• Ability to work effectively in situations with incomplete information or changing requirements.
• Experience using AI design or development tools to accelerate prototyping and implementation is a plus.
• Experience in data visualization, mapping, or building tools for technical or operational users is a plus.
• Experience in landfill operations, environmental management, engineering, or related industries is a plus but not required.
• Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment that values innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning.
