Our team is responsible for transforming the People Help Center experience that is being leveraged by 2.2M associates through different voice and chat channels.

The vision is to deliver a radically efficient, deeply empathetic People Services experience where associates get what they need the first time—with clarity, speed, and zero unnecessary effort. By leveraging AI, the system anticipates and resolves associates’ queries on HR functions like Benefits, Payroll etc. before they become human contacts, ensuring proactive support for associates. Additionally, human agents are empowered with context, judgment support, and automation, allowing them to deliver faster, more accurate assistance while focusing on meaningful interactions. This approach enhances productivity, cultivates a culture of belonging, and completely transforms the HR Help Center Experience for all Walmart’s associates.

Our team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack) to help design and build scalable, user-facing systems that power AI-enabled People Support experiences. In this hands-on role, you will work across backend services and modern web frontends, with a primary focus on backend system design, APIs, and integrations. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and ML partners to deliver reliable, performant solutions that directly impact millions of associates.

What you will do

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Java, Node.js (TypeScript), and Python to support AI-driven web and conversational applications

Build and enhance user-facing web applications using React, collaborating with designers and product managers to deliver intuitive and performant experiences

Implement and operate real-time conversational and search capabilities, supporting chatbot and virtual assistant experiences through backend orchestration and service integration

Integrate backend systems with ML and GenAI services, working closely with ML engineers to ensure reliable, observable, and production-ready integrations

Design and evolve service contracts, data models, and workflows across microservices and event-driven architectures

Contribute to system reliability, scalability, and performance, applying best practices in caching, concurrency, error handling, and capacity planning

Write high-quality, well-tested code, participate actively in code reviews, and uphold engineering best practices across backend and frontend components

Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, ML engineers, and other developers to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Participate in production support and on-call rotations, helping diagnose issues, resolve incidents, and implement long-term fixes

Continuously improve developer productivity and system quality by adopting appropriate tools, frameworks, and engineering practices

What you will bring

6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on backend development and full-stack delivery in production environments

Strong backend development experience in Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, and/or Python
