Job Description
About Sunflow Energy
Sunflow Energy is an international renewable energy company developing utility-scale solar, microgrid, and data center power projects across Latin America and Africa. We sit at the intersection of energy, infrastructure, and emerging technology — building the power backbone for the AI era. We move fast, operate lean, and travel often.
The Opportunity
This is not a traditional executive assistant role. We are looking for an exceptional operator to start as the right hand to the CEO and grow into a Chief of Staff and ultimately a CEO-level leadership position within Sunflow or one of its portfolio ventures. You will be in the room for every major decision — capital raises, project financing, partner negotiations, and international expansion — and you will be expected to learn the business deeply and quickly.
You will also serve as our pilot. We split time between Palo Alto and Truckee, and an IFR-rated pilot on the team unlocks a meaningful productivity advantage. You’ll fly the CEO and leadership between offices, project sites, and meetings on a regular basis.
What You’ll DoExecutive Support & Operations
- Manage the CEO’s calendar, inbox, travel, and priorities across multiple time zones (US, Latin America, Africa)
- Prepare briefing materials, agendas, and follow-ups for investor meetings, board sessions, and partner negotiations
- Run point on logistics for international travel, including visas, ground coordination, and in-country meetings
- Own special projects end-to-end — research, financial modeling, vendor management, diligence
Flight Operations
- Pilot company aircraft (or rented/chartered aircraft) between Palo Alto (KPAO/KSQL) and Truckee (KTRK), with occasional trips to project sites
- Maintain currency, proficiency, and all required medical and regulatory standards
- Coordinate flight planning, weather, fuel, and maintenance logistics
Chief of Staff Track
- Sit in on capital raises, PPA negotiations, and data center development discussions
- Build and maintain internal dashboards across Monday.com, QuickBooks, and Excel
- Interface with international teams in Latin America and Africa on project execution
- Identify operational gaps and design systems to close them
- Progressively take ownership of P&L lines, business units, or new ventures
Who You AreRequired
- IFR-rated pilot (FAA Instrument Rating, current and proficient). Multi-engine and/or high-performance endorsements a strong plus
- Quick learner — you absorb new domains (energy markets, project finance, aviation regs, international tax) faster than peers and retain it
- Willing and excited to travel — comfortable spending significant time in Africa, Latin America, and on the road
- Genuine interest in renewable energy and/or data center infrastructure — you already read about PPAs, grid economics, or AI infrastructure for fun, or want to
- Comfortable in ambiguity — startup pace, shifting priorities, lean team, no playbook
- Exceptional written and verbal communication in English
- High judgment and discretion — you’ll handle confidential financial, legal, and personnel information daily
- Authorized to work in the US and able to travel internationally without restriction
Strongly Preferred
- Prior experience in chief of staff, EA-to-founder, investment banking, consulting, or operating roles at an early-stage company
- Working proficiency in Spanish, French, or Portuguese
- Background or coursework in finance, engineering, energy, or aviation
- Familiarity with project finance, financial modeling, or deal diligence
- Experience with Monday.com, QuickBooks Online, and Excel/Google Workspace
- Commercial pilot certificate (CPL) — not required, but a meaningful plus
What Success Looks Like
- First 90 days: Fully owning the CEO’s calendar, travel, and inbox; flying the Palo Alto–Truckee route regularly; up to speed on the project portfolio
- First 6 months: Leading discrete workstreams (e.g., investor diligence packages, a project’s execution timeline, an internal systems buildout); trusted to represent the CEO in select external conversations
- First 12–24 months: Functioning as Chief of Staff with direct ownership of business operations, with a clear path to a GM, VP, or CEO role in a Sunflow business unit or portfolio company
