Job Description
We’re partnering with a fast-growing technology company that builds software used by highly technical engineering teams. They’re looking for a Software Engineer to join their Developer Infrastructure team and help create the systems that keep a growing organisation productive.
You’ll own and improve the tooling behind builds, CI/CD, releases, and developer experience. The role will involve modern build systems and large-scale repository infrastructure, with significant scope to influence the team’s technical direction and engineering practices.
What you’ll do
- Build, optimise, and maintain large-scale software build infrastructure.
- Improve build performance and developer workflows as the organisation and codebase grow.
- Own and optimise CI/CD pipelines, release automation, and deployment reliability.
- Develop infrastructure that makes local development faster, more consistent, and easier to use.
- Build observability and telemetry across developer infrastructure, including logging, metrics, and tracing.
- Work closely with engineering teams to identify and remove technical friction.
- Measure improvements through build performance, release reliability, and developer productivity metrics.
- Help shape the team’s tooling, architecture, and engineering practices from an early stage.
Who we’re looking for
- 4+ years of experience building, scaling, or optimising software build systems.
- Strong experience with Bazel or a comparable build system.
- Experience working with and scaling large repositories or monorepos.
- A proven track record of improving CI/CD performance, release reliability, or developer productivity.
- Comfort owning developer infrastructure across build tooling, CI/CD, and release automation.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and a first-principles approach to solving complex problems.
- A pragmatic mindset, with the ability to move quickly while building solutions that can scale.
- Comfortable working with engineers across different teams and understanding their development workflows.
Nice to have
- Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog or Grafana.
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, audit logging, or telemetry infrastructure.
- Kubernetes experience.
- Experience with remote build caching or distributed build execution.
- Experience creating ephemeral development environments.
- Previous experience building internal developer platforms or engineering tools.
