We are working confidentially with a leading investment firm to identify an E-Trading Systems Developer for a high-impact engineering seat within their electronic trading technology function.
This is a core Java engineering role for someone who combines deep systems expertise with genuine electronic trading knowledge — building and evolving the smart order routing and algorithmic execution infrastructure that sits at the center of how the firm trades in the market.
The Role
You will design, build, and maintain the SOR and algo execution systems that power the firm’s electronic trading operation — working closely with quant researchers, execution specialists, and trading desks to deliver high-performance, low-latency trading infrastructure. This is engineering-first — the firm needs someone who writes production-grade Java at the highest level and understands the consequences of every design decision in a live trading environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing and engineering core components of the smart order routing and algorithmic execution platform
- Building high-performance, low-latency Java systems where execution speed and correctness are non-negotiable
- Developing and maintaining high-throughput messaging infrastructure supporting real-time order flow and execution
- Owning order placement logic, routing decision frameworks, and execution flow within the SOR and algo platform
- Optimising system performance — GC tuning, concurrency design, lock-free data structures, and allocation-free critical path engineering
- Integrating with exchange connectivity and market data infrastructure via FIX protocol and proprietary feeds
- Partnering with quant researchers and execution specialists to translate algorithmic trading requirements into production systems
What We Are Looking For
- Strong core Java proficiency — production-grade, deliberate, and performance-aware
- Deep concurrency, multithreading, and memory management expertise at a systems level
- Low-latency and high-throughput systems experience — non-negotiable
- GC tuning expertise — G1, ZGC, or Shenandoah configured for latency-sensitive production environments
- Hands-on messaging framework experience — Aeron, Chronicle Queue, Disruptor, or Kafka
- Direct experience building or owning SOR, algorithmic execution, or order management systems in production
- Electronic trading environment experience — agency, prop trading, or systematic execution strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of order types, venue dynamics, and execution quality considerations
Beneficial
- FIX protocol and exchange connectivity experience
- Lock-free data structure and allocation-free design pattern experience
- Market microstructure knowledge — dark pools, lit venues, and smart routing logic
- Algo framework development experience — TWAP, VWAP, or implementation shortfall
