Job Description
Role
UX/UI Lead
Hours: Full-time
Location: San Francisco, CA hybrid
About This Role
We’re seeking a highly skilled UX/UI Lead to join our passionate team in San Francisco, CA.
At AdaptedMind, we create engaging educational experiences that inspire children through the power of technology. We’re looking for a mission-driven designer who can turn rough product ideas, founder input, and team feedback into clear, intuitive, polished product experiences across web and native app platforms.
Our interfaces span a wide spectrum — from playful, game-inspired learning experiences for kids, to functional parent dashboards, subscription flows, onboarding experiences, and marketing pages that reach millions of families. This role calls for strong UX judgment, high UI craft, and the ability to move fluidly between early exploration and polished execution.
You’ll create UX flows, lo-fi or hi-fi designs as appropriate, responsive layouts, prototypes, design-system components, and engineering-ready assets. You’ll also represent design clearly in cross-functional discussions with founders, product managers, engineers, QA, and design partners.
We’re also looking for someone who is comfortable using AI-assisted tools to accelerate exploration, generate visual directions, produce assets, organize ideas, and improve design workflows — while maintaining strong personal judgment over UX, craft, and final execution.
This hybrid role includes regular team office days in downtown San Francisco and is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of UX clarity, UI craft, responsive design, hands-on execution, and AI-assisted design workflows.
Responsibilities
UX/UI Design
- Turn rough ideas, product goals, founder input, and user needs into clear flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
- Choose the right fidelity for the work, from quick lo-fi exploration to polished hi-fi execution.
- Design across product surfaces including learning flows, onboarding, engagement loops, parent-facing experiences, account/payment flows, and supporting product areas.
- Create responsive, engineering-ready designs in Figma across web, tablet, mobile, and native app experiences.
- Apply and extend design systems through reusable components, variants, typography, iconography, interaction states, and layout patterns.
- Define how designs adapt across screen sizes, breakpoints, devices, and aspect ratios.
- Identify UX risks, edge cases, dependencies, and open questions early so the team can move with clarity.
- Thoughtfully use AI-assisted tools to move faster across exploration, visual direction, asset creation, prototyping, documentation, and iteration — while owning the final design judgment and quality.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with founders, product managers, engineers, QA, UI designers, concept designers, and other design partners.
- Communicate design decisions clearly, including rationale, tradeoffs, user impact, and implementation considerations.
- Partner with engineering to ensure designs are feasible, complete, and implemented with high fidelity.
- Respond quickly to feedback and iterate with speed, flexibility, and strong judgment.
Quality & Craft
- Raise the quality of product experiences through strong usability, visual polish, consistency, accessibility, and implementation detail.
- Anticipate handoff and implementation issues before they slow the team down.
- Review built experiences where needed to ensure the final product matches design intent.
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years in UX design, product design, UX/UI design, or a similar role for consumer technology products. Experience in education, gaming, child-facing products, subscriptions, or family products is a plus.
- Portfolio: Strong examples of UX flows, high-fidelity UI, responsive design, design-system usage, and work across different product surfaces.
- UX Strength: Ability to turn ambiguous or incomplete input into clear user flows, interaction models, and design solutions.
- UI Craft: Strong visual design skills across hierarchy, layout, spacing, typography, color, components, and interaction states.
- Figma Expertise: Expert proficiency in Figma, including components, variants, prototyping, responsive layouts, design systems, and clean file organization.
- Responsive Design: Ability to design and document how experiences adapt across web, tabl…
