About the Role

This is a hands-on development role where you’ll help build, improve and maintain the technology powering our digital learning platforms.

Working as part of a close-knit product team, you’ll contribute across the full development lifecycle, from building responsive user interfaces through to developing robust backend functionality and helping shape the future direction of our products.

You’ll work with modern technologies, collaborate closely with designers, product managers and stakeholders, and make extensive use of AI-assisted development tools to improve quality and productivity.

What You’ll Be Working On

We believe developers should influence products, not simply complete tickets.

You’ll play an active role in delivering major roadmap projects across our customised Moodle learning platform, developing new functionality, improving user experience and helping thousands of learners access world-class sustainability education.

You’ll contribute ideas, solve meaningful technical challenges and work alongside a collaborative team that values innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop modern, responsive front-end experiences from detailed design specifications.

• Write clean, reusable and maintainable PHP and JavaScript code.

• Build and enhance functionality across our customised Moodle platform.

• Perform code reviews and contribute to engineering best practice.

• Support fellow developers through collaboration and knowledge sharing.

• Maintain high software quality through testing and continuous improvement.

• Write and maintain unit tests and Behat tests where appropriate.

• Work closely with designers, product managers and engineers throughout delivery.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborative planning sessions.

System Management & Support

• Troubleshoot application issues and optimise performance.

• Support scalability, reliability and maintainability across the platform.

• Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, GDPR and secure development practices.

• Contribute to quality assurance activities and maintain data integrity.

Continuous Improvement

• Help improve user experience through product enhancements.

• Introduce new ideas, tools and development approaches.
