Position Overview
We are seeking a UI/UX Designer to help plan and design modern, accessible, and user-centred websites and digital services. The designer will work with clients, project managers, content specialists, developers, and other stakeholders to transform complex information and business requirements into clear, intuitive digital experiences.
The role will contribute across the full project lifecycle, from discovery and user research through information architecture, prototyping, visual design, usability testing, development support, and launch.
This position is particularly suited to someone experienced in designing content-rich, public-facing websites for organizations such as municipalities, educational institutions, government agencies, regulated organizations, or other service-based organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in discovery sessions, stakeholder interviews, workshops, and requirements-gathering activities.
- Assess existing websites to identify usability, accessibility, navigation, content, and visual-design issues.
- Define user needs, priority tasks, user journeys, personas, and experience principles.
- Develop or refine:
- Information architecture
- Sitemaps
- Navigation structures
- Taxonomies
- User flows
- Content hierarchies
- Create sketches, wireframes, responsive layouts, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes.
- Design intuitive experiences for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
- Develop and maintain scalable design systems, component libraries, page templates, patterns, and interface standards.
- Ensure designs align with client branding while maintaining consistency, flexibility, and long-term scalability.
- Apply accessibility requirements throughout the design process, including WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 Level AA considerations.
- Design accessible interaction patterns, forms, navigation, typography, colour usage, content layouts, and reusable components.
- Plan and facilitate usability testing, prototype reviews, and iterative design validation.
- Translate research findings and stakeholder feedback into practical design improvements.
- Collaborate with content strategists to improve readability, plain-language presentation, content discoverability, and task completion.
- Work closely with front-end and back-end developers to ensure designs are technically feasible and implemented accurately.
- Prepare design specifications, annotations, responsive behaviour documentation, and developer handoff materials.
- Review implemented interfaces and provide design quality assurance throughout development and testing.
- Present design concepts and recommendations clearly to clients, project teams, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support client training, design-system documentation, and knowledge transfer where required.
These responsibilities reflect the RFPs’ emphasis on improved information architecture, responsive templates, reusable components, interactive prototypes, design systems, accessibility, usability testing, stakeholder engagement, and long-term website maintainability.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Media, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing responsive websites or digital products.
- Strong portfolio showing UX research, information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, visual design, and completed digital experiences.
- Proficiency with tools such as Figma, FigJam, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design and collaboration platforms.
- Strong understanding of user-centred design principles and iterative design processes.
- Experience creating or contributing to design systems and reusable component libraries.
- Working knowledge of web accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
- Understanding of responsive design, mobile-first design, and common front-end development constraints.
- Ability to organize and simplify complex information for diverse audiences.
- Strong communication, presentation, documentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
