Job Overview

Harbor.ai is hiring a Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the systems and APIs that power our insurance technology platform. This is a hands-on backend engineering role for someone who wants to build production infrastructure that supports real transaction volume in a fast-growing InsurTech company. You’ll work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and operations teams to deliver backend solutions that are fast, reliable, and built to scale.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience building production backend systems
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
• Experience building microservices in a modern backend language
• Experience working with both relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases
• Demonstrated expertise deploying and scaling applications on a major cloud platform
• Hands-on experience containerizing applications and working with container orchestration tools
• Track record designing, shipping, and supporting API-driven architectures
• Proficiency building automated deployment pipelines and continuous integration (CI/CD) workflows

Preferred Qualifications

• Background architecting multi-service systems and distributed architectures
• Familiarity with serverless computing patterns and event-driven design
• Experience working with large-scale data pipelines or high-throughput systems

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop scalable backend services and service-oriented architectures
• Own the full lifecycle of REST APIs serving both internal teams and external partners
• Own production incidents end-to-end, from detection through root cause analysis, remediation, and prevention
• Build and evolve deployment automation, including pipeline design and release strategies
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across the application and data layers
• Author clear technical specifications and maintain up-to-date system documentation
