Job Description

Since 2009, The Dorm has been a mission-driven, client-centered mental health organization that has been bringing comprehensive, evidence-based treatment to young adults, ages 18-30. We are looking for a skilled, proactive and responsive Contract Email Developer to join our multidisciplinary team remotely and contribute to our goal of making a difference.

We’re looking for a contract Email Developer to support our in-house development team with ongoing projects. You’ll collaborate closely with our marketing team to build custom-coded email campaigns within Mailchimp. This role is ideal for someone with strong HTML/CSS email experience who is responsive and detail-oriented.

This role is ideal for someone who is responsive, timely, detail-oriented and eager to work with a team, making an impact in the mental health space.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and maintain custom HTML email templates for use in Mailchimp
  • Translate design files (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD) into responsive, pixel-accurate email code
  • Ensure compatibility across major email clients (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, mobile devices)
  • Troubleshoot and fix rendering issues in existing campaigns
  • Optimize emails for deliverability, accessibility, and performance
  • Implement dynamic content and merge tags within Mailchimp
  • Collaborate with marketing/design teams to refine layouts and functionality using the Asana project management platform
  • Provide QA and testing before campaign deployment - exacting attention to details, very communicative and responsive

What You Need to Qualify:

  • 2+ years of experience in web development (freelance or professional)
  • Proven experience coding HTML emails (not just web HTML)
  • Strong understanding of email-specific CSS limitations and workarounds
  • Hands-on experience with Mailchimp (template structure, merge tags, campaign setup)
  • Familiarity with responsive email frameworks (e.g., hybrid/fluid design techniques)
  • Experience testing with tools like Litmus or Email on Acid (or equivalent methods)
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet quick turnaround times
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g. Asana) and standard development workflows
  • Excellent communication skills and self-motivation in a remote environment

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Experience with accessibility best practices for email
  • Basic understanding of email marketing metrics and optimization
  • Familiarity with other ESPs (e.g., Klaviyo, HubSpot)

Schedule: Available weekly during EST business hours up to 7 hours/week remotely.

Compensation: $40 USD/hour.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We consider applicants for all positions on the basis of merit, qualifications and business needs, and without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, age, disability, alienage or citizenship status, ancestry, marital status, partnership status, creed, sexual and reproductive health decisions, genetic predisposition or carrier status, sexual orientation, uniformed service or veteran status, familial status, status as a victim of domestic violence or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable federal, state or local laws.
