Job Description

OVERVIEW:

The D. E. Shaw group seeks an experienced artificial intelligence (AI) professional to join its Learning & Development (L&D) team. The innovation-focused L&D team develops customized learning offerings to help the firm’s talent excel in their careers. This highly visible, business-facing role will shape how the firm leverages AI to advance learning, build AI fluency, and equip employees with the skills to transform how they work.

WHAT YOU’LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Stay current on the rapidly evolving AI landscape, bringing informed perspectives on new models, tooling, use cases, risks, and best practices to the team’s strategic and tactical decisions.
  • Translate AI capabilities into practical learning experiences, resources, and workflow solutions that help employees use AI to enhance and reinvent day-to-day work.
  • Consult and collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs, identify opportunities for AI-enabled skill-building, and design approaches that are relevant, scalable, and impactful.
  • Facilitate engaging workshops and learning experiences, fostering confidence, curiosity, and thoughtful experimentation with new ways of working.
  • Lead cross-functional planning and execution for AI learning initiatives, managing timelines, stakeholders, and dependencies to ensure successful delivery.
  • Partner with L&D colleagues to apply AI across our learning programs, enhancing how we design, deliver, personalize, and continuously improve learning experiences.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • A bachelor’s degree with fifteen or more years of professional experience, including meaningful experience working with AI, emerging technologies, digital transformation, technical enablement, or a related field; experience in learning and development, instructional design, facilitation, or talent development is a plus.
  • Deep AI fluency, a passion for staying engaged in the latest AI advancements, and demonstrated enthusiasm for helping others adopt AI in practical, thoughtful, and effective ways.
  • Proven ability to translate technical concepts and business needs into clear, actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Proven consulting skills and experience collaborating with senior business leaders and stakeholders.
  • The ability to facilitate and influence at all levels of the organization, operate effectively in ambiguous environments, manage multiple workstreams, navigate cross-functional dependencies, and drive work forward with speed.
  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $250,000 to $300,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
