Senior Python Engineer – FinTech Scale-Up

Salary: Up to £90,000

Experience: 3–5 years

Overview

We’re working with a high-growth FinTech scale-up looking to hire a Senior Python Engineer to play a key role in building and scaling their core data and backend systems. This is a high-impact position where you’ll operate as the second-in-command within the engineering team, working closely with the Team Lead and taking ownership of critical technical initiatives.

This role suits someone who is both technically strong and proactive — someone who can operate independently, contribute to architectural decisions, and help drive best practices across the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems using Python
• Work closely with data infrastructure, ensuring efficient handling and processing of large datasets
• Take ownership of database design, optimisation, and performance tuning
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, production-ready solutions
• Support and influence technical direction alongside the Team Lead
• Contribute to code quality, standards, and engineering best practices

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Python (3–5 years)
• Solid software engineering fundamentals – clean code, testing, and system design
• Deep understanding of databases (must be a specialist in this area)
• Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS or Azure)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work autonomously
• Proven track record as a self-starter in fast-paced environments

Desirable Experience

• Experience with Databricks (highly preferred)
• Experience with Snowflake (nice to have, not essential)
• Strong PostgreSQL experience
• Exposure to data engineering concepts and pipelines
