Job Description
Shape the user experience of advanced engineering software
TICRA builds highly specialised software used by space agencies, satellite manufacturers, and defence organisations worldwide. Our tools are technically state-of-the-art, and we’re now investing in the user experience to match. We need the right person to help us do it.
The challenge
Our software is rich and capable, our users are specialists, and our interface has evolved over decades of deep engineering work. Much of the challenge is to make complex engineering workflows easier to understand, configure, run and repeat. Our new UX vision and principles are in the making.
Your job is to turn that foundation into a coherent, scalable experience — and to help build the systems and shape the processes that make great UX repeatable across everything we ship.
This is not a role for someone who wants to craft pixel-perfect mockups in isolation. It’s for someone who thinks in systems, works fast with modern tools, and cares about getting real things built.
How we work
We are rapidly changing the way we work. From Figma and mockups, toward building the entire design system and advanced, working prototypes directly in code — using AI like Claude and friends — which give developers a concrete implementation reference and customers high-fidelity demos. We expect you to work the same way, or to get there fast.
AI is becoming a core part of how this team operates. If you’re not already an expert, we expect you to be curious about new tools and ways of working — and keen to get there fast.
You will work closely with the Head of UX & Design and, over time, with the UX research and operations capabilities we’re building as we grow a more systematic UX practice. You’ll also be part of several cross-functional teams — working alongside Product Managers and our Applied Engineering & Validation team to make sure workflows and concepts hold up against real engineering cases and customer needs.
What you’ll work on
- The design system — components, paradigms and templates built to scale, maintained, and handed off cleanly to developers
- UI consistency across TICRA Tools — unifying the user experience, including look and feel and paradigms, across the products
- Prototyping and concept work — collaboratively with subject matter experts to bring new ideas and concepts to life as advanced prototypes in a quick and agile way
- The design-to-development handoff — you close the gap, working alongside developers from concept to shipped code
- Collaboration with external designers — briefing, quality control, keeping work on track
- User research support — running usability tests and interviews when needed, feeding findings directly into design decisions
Who you are
You think in systems before you think in screens. You’re drawn to the architecture of an experience — how components relate, and how patterns scale. You move easily between the general principle and the example.
You’re comfortable finding compromises in close collaboration with the developers, when the technology limits your design vision.
Together with the team, you’ll bring AI tools into the product development process wherever they add value. You balance finding new ways to improve our processes and systems with maintaining consistency and keeping the design system lean and tidy.
You bring:
- A portfolio that shows systems thinking — design tokens, component libraries, scalable patterns, probably from Figma
- Hands-on experience with complex, technical, or data-heavy software (beyond consumer apps)
- Strong collaboration with developers, and a good understanding of how design becomes code
- Practical experience with AI-assisted design and prototyping tools
- Real experience with user research methods — interviews, usability testing — not just as an observer
- 5+ years in a product design role
You don’t need previous knowledge about antenna design or electromagnetic simulation, but we expect you to have a general understanding of engineering and physics, for instance acquired as part of a Master’s degree in Engineering and Design or similar.
International candidates are welcome, but must be citizens of a NATO/EU country (required due to project constraints).
Why TICRA
You will join a company with exceptionally skilled and genuinely curious people that make best-in-class algorithms and software, and with the opportunity to help drive the user experience of the produc…
