Network Engineer L2 (Level 2) Job Description

Job Title: Senior Network Engineer

Experience Required: 4–6 years

Location: Hyderabad

Role Overview

The L2 Network Engineer provides advanced technical support, performs configurations, handles escalations, manages network improvements, and ensures network stability.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and troubleshoot complex network issues escalated from L1.
• Configure and maintain routers, switches, wireless controllers, and firewalls.
• Design, configure, and support VLANs, inter-VLAN routing, trunking, STP, and redundancy protocols.
• Implement and troubleshoot routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP).
• Configure VPNs (IPSec/SSL/DMVPN).
• Perform firewall rule creation, NAT, security policies (Fortinet/Cisco ASA/Palo Alto/etc.).
• Analyse network traffic, logs, and performance metrics.
• Participate in network upgrade, migration, and new deployment projects.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and best practices.
• Mentor and support L1 engineers.
• Prepare and maintain high-quality network documentation.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of Layer 2/Layer 3 networking.
• Hands-on experience on Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, and Extreme networks.
• Experience on Cisco WLC and Juniper MIST wireless networks
• Deep knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, EVPN, MPLS).
• Solid understanding of firewall concepts, IPSec, VPN, ACLs, NAT, IPS/IDS.
• Experience with network tools (ITOM, ME, CVP, Nagios, Syslog etc).
• Ability to analyse packet captures (Wireshark).
• Knowledge on ITIL process
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/IT/Electronics.
• JNICA/JNCIS, CCNA / CCNP (preferred).
• SD-WAN / Cloud networking knowledge (optional but beneficial).Role & responsibilities
