Job Description

About Catalyst Edge AI

Catalyst Edge AI is a Malaysia-based enterprise AI system integrator specialising in the design, deployment, and governance of production-grade AI agents for regulated industries, including banking and financial services. We build knowledge assistants, workflow automation agents, and system-integrated copilots on a modern, open-source-first technology stack, with a strong emphasis on traceability, compliance, and best practices.

The Role

We are looking for a bright, motivated Associate AI Engineer to join our delivery team. This is a hands-on, generalist engineering role suited to a fast learner who wants to grow across the full spectrum of AI agent development — from backend services and data pipelines to front-end interfaces and cloud deployment.

You will work directly alongside the CTO on live client engagements, helping to build and ship real systems. System architecture guidance and technical mentorship will be provided; what we are looking for first and foremost is the right attitude, curiosity, and the drive to learn quickly and contribute.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain components of AI agent systems across our active client projects (automation workflows, document intelligence, conversational assistants).
  • Write clean, well-structured code and collaborate through Git/GitHub following team conventions.
  • Help develop and integrate workflows, APIs, and data pipelines under guidance.
  • Support testing, debugging, and refinement of demos and production deployments.
  • Learn and apply system architecture principles with mentorship from the CTO.
  • Contribute to documentation and help maintain a high standard of delivery quality.
  • Use AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude Code, Codex, or similar) to accelerate your work — applied on top of solid engineering judgement, not as a substitute for it.

Who You Are

Attitude and aptitude matter more to us than a long list of technologies. We will invest in growing your technical depth — you bring the hunger to learn.

  • A fast learner who is genuinely excited about AI and building software.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and comfortable filling gaps and figuring things out.
  • Keen to use AI tools to work smarter and amplify your output — while understanding what the code does and why.
  • Strong problem-solving instincts and attention to detail.
  • A clear communicator and dependable team player.
  • Fresh graduate up to ~3 years of relevant experience.

Foundational Skills

  • Solid programming fundamentals (Python preferred; other languages welcome).
  • Good working knowledge of Git and GitHub.
  • Basic understanding of system architecture concepts (we will develop this further).
  • A genuine grasp of programming and algorithmic fundamentals — so you can use AI coding tools to extend your abilities, not to paper over gaps in understanding.
  • Familiarity with databases and APIs.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to AI / LLM frameworks (e.g. LangChain, LangGraph) or a strong interest in learning them.
  • Front-end experience (React or similar).
  • Familiarity with Docker or cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Any personal or academic projects you’re proud of — we’d love to see them.

Why Join Us

  • Work on real, high-impact enterprise AI projects from day one.
  • Direct mentorship from the CTO and hands-on exposure to the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Rapid learning across a modern, open-source-first AI stack.
  • A growing company where your contribution is visible and valued.

Please Note

This role is open to candidates who are legally authorised to work in Malaysia without visa sponsorship . We welcome applications from Malaysian citizens, permanent residents, and holders of a Long-Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) with valid work endorsement. We are unable to sponsor or support visa or work permit applications.
