Software Development Engineer in Test

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to establish a dedicated test automation capability. The team supports Systematic Internaliser (SI) Reporting , with a focus on improving the quality, predictability, auditability, and automation of regulatory reporting processes.

This is a highly technical, backend-focused SDET role requiring strong Python automation, database validation, and financial services experience. The environment is built on SQL Server, C#.NET, Python, and Java , with automation centered around PyTest BDD and Playwright .

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Build and maintain automated test frameworks using PyTest BDD and Playwright
• Automate regression testing for SQL stored procedures, data pipelines, and reporting workflows
• Perform complex data validation, reconciliation, and backend testing
• Validate financial and regulatory reporting data across multiple systems
• Design and execute unit, component, integration, and regression automation suites
• Work closely with developers and business teams to validate reporting logic and business rules
• Support quality initiatives for SI reporting and auditability requirements
• Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines and release processes
• Participate fully in Agile ceremonies and team delivery activities
• Work aligned to UK business hours

Must-Haves

Test Automation

• 7+ years of SDET or Test Automation Engineering experience
• Strong hands-on expertise with PyTest BDD
• Strong hands-on expertise with Playwright
• Experience building automation frameworks from scratch or enhancing existing frameworks
• Strong API automation experience

Development & Database

• Strong Python programming experience
• Working knowledge of SQL Server or PostgreSQL
• Experience with tSQL stored procedure testing and regression automation
• Strong data validation and reconciliation testing experience
• Working knowledge of C#.NET and Java

Domain Experience (Critical)

• Strong Financial Services experience
• Experience validating financial data, reporting systems, trading platforms, capital markets platforms, or regulatory systems

Plusses

• AI/ML-based testing, anomaly detection, and drift detection
• Github Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or AI-assisted automation development
• scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyCaret exposure
• Performance testing (JMeter, k6, SQL Profiler)
• Regulatory reporting experience
