Job Description

About Blueprint to Great Schools

Blueprint to Great Schools is a strategic advisory firm that delivers rapid, scalable results by solving gaps in strategic vision, systems, and leadership for PK-12 institutions across the United States. We leverage over 40 years of experience as education leaders whose schools and programs performed in the top 1% of the state and national landscape. We help clients align their Beliefs & Behaviors - the vision, systems, and day-to-day schooling practice that drive sustained excellence.

Your Role as Manager of School Design

BGS’s School Design practice builds the foundational architecture that enables schools to perform at the highest level. As a Manager of School Design, you work with school and system leaders to design, assess, and stress-test the core elements of a high-performing school: its mission and vision, academic model, program structure, staffing design, and student culture systems.

This is a hybrid role with travel on-site to schools across the United States (concentrated in the New York City Metropolitan area). You work in close partnership with our Managing Partners to set the design strategy for each engagement, translate complex institutional goals into clear and operational school design artifacts, and ensure that every element of a school’s design is coherent, ambitious, and feasible.

Through our work, our school partners design the systems that make their vision a reality. Your deliverables are precise, sequenced, and built to last. You measure your success by the durability of what you build.

Your Beliefs & Behaviors

  • You believe in our Core Beliefs and in the theory of action behind the Blueprint.
  • You design with the end in mind. Every artifact you produce — whether a vision document, a staffing model, or a program map — is traceable back to outcomes for students, families, and faculty.
  • You hold high standards for internal alignment and presentation. You see misalignment quickly and work to close gaps. You take pride in the quality of your written work and always seek to improve.
  • You communicate with candor and precision, translating complex design decisions into language that school leaders can own and act on.
  • You are a builder. You believe the difference between a good school and a great one often lives in the details of its design — and you treat those details as consequential.
  • You believe in building a legacy, measuring your own success by client success that sustains over years and decades.

Your Qualifications for Manager, School Design

  • At least 5 years of experience in school leadership, instructional leadership, or school design, with demonstrated results.
  • Experience scaling a school model — you have built or helped build systems that transferred across campuses, grades, or cohorts.
  • A track record as a founder or early team member of a high-performing school or program, with evidence of excellent student outcomes.
  • Deep expertise in instructional leadership: you know what rigorous teaching looks like, how to design for it, and how to build the systems that sustain it.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher.

Compensation for Manager, School Design

  • Salary range: $120,000–$150,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • Successful team members may earn bonuses, based on performance.
  • As a fast-growing, mission-driven firm, we are committed to investing in our people. We offer flexible work, unlimited Paid Time Off, professional development opportunities, and wellness stipends that reflect our Core Belief in building systems and structures that enable educators to achieve their fullest potential.

To apply, please send an email to [email protected] with the role you are applying for in the subject line, a brief note summarizing your fit, and your resume attached as PDF. Please include your earliest start date. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate your interest.
