AI Fellow

Duties/Responsibilities

• Partner with Portfolio Managers and Strategists to identify opportunities where AI can improve and accelerate their research workflows
• Design and refine AI-driven workflows that support recurring investment research tasks and improve day-to-day productivity for the investment teams
• Develop strong fluency in investment concepts in order to design AI solutions that are tailored, relevant, and genuinely additive to the way the investment teams operate
• Apply AI to structure and surface insights from unstructured information , helping convert a wide range of inputs into clear, decision-ready outputs
• Evaluate and integrate third-party AI tools and data vendors , assessing fit with the firm’s technology stack, operational requirements, and security standards; monitor the evolving AI landscape and bring forward emerging tools, techniques, and capabilities that can meaningfully enhance the firm’s research process
• Build internal tooling and lightweight applications using modern AI-native development environments to support the firm’s investment and operational workflows
• Contribute to broader research and analytical initiatives as needed, supporting the firm’s quantitative and data infrastructure efforts

Experience

• 0–2 years of professional or internship experience in software engineering, data science, or machine learning (recent graduates strongly encouraged to apply)
• Strong proficiency with code generation tools, Cursor preferred
• Strong Python proficiency — comfortable writing clean, modular code; hands-on exposure to at least one ML/AI framework ( scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow )
• Familiarity with LLMs and generative AI tooling — has used OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, LangChain, or similar; understands prompt engineering and basic RAG concepts
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Exposure to time-series or financial data through coursework, personal projects, internships, or Kaggle-style competitions
• Comfort with Git and standard collaborative development workflows (pull requests, code review, CI/CD basics)
• Cloud exposure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) through coursework, internships, or side projects — production experience not required
• Strong written and verbal communication — able to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
• Demonstrated curiosity through a portfolio of projects, GitHub contributions, hackathons, research, or independent learning

Education

• Required: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Math, Data Science, or a closely related technical field. Other majors accepted with demonstrated AI and technical experience.

• Intellectual curiosity about AI/ML in financial markets
• Trading floor or investment management environment experience
• Quantitative finance concepts (backtesting, signal construction, factor models)
• Alternative data experience (satellite, NLP on filings, web scraping)
• Prototyping/experimentation mindset
• Ability to multitask and operate autonomously
• Proactive, self-starter mentality
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a cross-functional, hybrid team

The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 per year. The actual base pay is dependent upon several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, business needs and market demands. This role may also be eligible for bonus compensation and employee benefits. This is intended to be a 6 month contract role and upon Cinctive’s satisfaction convert to a full-time role at the end of the contract.
