EJB and JTA Specialist: 3 / 2.

Employment Full-time. Partner to confirm the employment model.

Reports to Shift lead (L1.5) or Technical Lead (L2)

Minimum experience L1.5: 3+ years in production support of Java application servers

or 24x7 integration platforms. Senior L1.5: 5+ years (proposed).

L2: 6+ years of Java in production, including 3+ years on JBoss

EAP or WildFly.

Purpose

The CIMS platform is a B2B integration platform for a healthcare distributor. It receives, translates and delivers business

documents to trading partners, and it runs 24x7. Its core is custom Java 8 applications, built in-house by the client, running

on JBoss EAP 7.1. They use EJB timers, JTA transactions and JMS, and a messaging layer backed by Oracle database tables.

The L1.5 desk keeps the platform watched and recovers it using runbooks. L2 specialists diagnose and fix faults in the Java

and JBoss layer, make code changes under change control, and write the root-cause analysis.

Responsibilities

 L1.5 Desk Engineer: watch the platform 24x7; triage alerts and incidents; give first response from runbooks; meet the

P1 and P2 response times; update ServiceNow records; run shift handovers; escalate to L2 with evidence.

 L2 Java/JBoss Specialist: diagnose EJB, JTA, JMS and JBoss runtime incidents from server logs, stack traces and

configuration; fix timer and transaction faults at source; make code changes with tests and a rollback plan; write RCAs

for P1 and P2 incidents; review repeat failures for problem records.

 All levels: follow the change process; keep runbooks current; work to the client’s incident priorities.

Must-have skills

 Java 8 in production, including EJB 3.x, JMS, JTA, JPA/Hibernate and Envers auditing (L2 must-have; L1.5 working

knowledge of logs and configuration).

 JBoss EAP 7.x, WildFly or JBoss AS 7.x operations: deploy applications, configure datasources, read server and

transaction logs, manage timers, and restart nodes safely under change control (L2 must-have; L1.5 working

knowledge).

 Oracle SQL on application tables: query message and status tables, and make approved data corrections under change

control (L2 must-have; L1.5 basic read-only queries).

 Linux (RHEL) command line: logs, processes, disk and memory, file ownership and permissions, service accounts (both

levels).

Job description. Anonymised for posting. Confirm before publishing.

 ITSM incident practice on ServiceNow or a similar tool: P1 and P2 handling, clear written updates, escalation and

handover (both levels).

 IBM MQ awareness for the MQ bridge: queues, channels, polling and duplicate checks (L2 must-have).

 Working in 24x7 shift rotas with structured handover (both levels).

 AI-assisted delivery: uses an approved AI assistant (for example GitHub Copilot) for log analysis and runbook drafting,

and checks its output (both levels).

Nice to have

 EDI or translation exposure (X12, AS2, IBM Sterling Integrator, ITXA).

 Nagios or LogicMonitor alert handling.

 Azure and Kubernetes awareness (AKS).

 Java 17 and JBoss upgrade awareness (migration is an optional scope).

 Hybrid on-premises-to-Azure bridge component: how it carries messages across the boundary.

 Healthcare or pharmaceutical integration experience.

Tools

ServiceNow; Nagios; LogicMonitor; Java 8; JBoss EAP 7.1 (or WildFly / JBoss AS 7.x); Oracle (SQL); GitHub Copilot.

How success is measured

 L1.5: acknowledgement within the P1 and P2 response times; clean shift handovers; alerts triaged without a missed

escalation.

 L2: first-pass RCA acceptance; fewer repeat incidents on the named signatures; code changes that pass CAB without

rework.
