Job Description
AI Biologist – Medical Countermeasures (In Partnership with LatchBio)
**Full-Time Remote Global**We’re partnering with LatchBio, a rapidly growing AI-driven biotechnology company, to recruit an AI Biologist specialising in Medical Countermeasures.
LatchBio builds rigorous scientific benchmarks that help leading AI labs and pharmaceutical companies evaluate how effectively their AI agents can perform real-world biological research workflows.
Their Medical Countermeasures team focuses on evaluating AI capabilities across vaccine development, therapeutic antibodies and antiviral research, particularly against respiratory viruses including influenza, RSV and coronaviruses.
This is an opportunity to apply your scientific expertise at the intersection of virology, immunology, vaccine development and frontier AI, helping establish the standards against which advanced AI systems are evaluated.
The Opportunity
You’ll act as the scientific authority on ground truth, using your hands-on experience in vaccine, antibody or antiviral development to design challenging scientific evaluations and assess whether AI-generated conclusions are genuinely supported by experimental evidence.
Working alongside scientists and engineers, you’ll translate real countermeasure research workflows into structured tasks and benchmarks, interpret complex datasets and establish the gold-standard answers against which AI agents are evaluated.
This is a science-first position where deep experimental knowledge, scientific judgement and the ability to challenge flawed conclusions are more important than advanced programming expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop scientifically rigorous tasks and benchmarks covering vaccine antigen design, immunogen comparison, therapeutic antibody discovery and antiviral development.
- Analyse and interpret experimental datasets, including neutralisation titers, binding and epitope maps, serology time courses, EC50 values and viral sequence data.
- Establish gold-standard answers and evaluation criteria that account for assay variability, biological differences and experimental uncertainty.
- Assess AI-generated conclusions around viral escape, antibody resistance, antiviral susceptibility and cross-reactivity.
- Distinguish genuine biological signals from assay artefacts, experimental noise and unsupported scientific interpretations.
- Evaluate whether AI agents can accurately interpret the differences between binding and neutralisation, immunogenicity and protection, and laboratory resistance and clinical relevance.
- Work closely with scientists and engineers to build and continuously improve AI-driven scientific benchmarking workflows.
What We’re Looking For
- PhD in Immunology, Virology, Microbiology or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in either vaccine/antibody development or antiviral development.
- Strong expertise in at least one of the following areas:
Vaccines & Antibodies
- Vaccine antigen design, immunogen engineering or therapeutic antibody discovery.
- Epitope mapping, neutralisation, cross-reactivity and immune recognition.
- Comparative evaluation of vaccine or antibody candidates using experimental data.
- Antibody responses, immune imprinting and waning immunity.
Antivirals
- Antiviral susceptibility and resistance, including phenotypic drug-response and viral sequence data.
- Antiviral discovery, mechanism-of-action studies or experimental evaluation of candidates.
- Treatment-emergent resistance, cross-resistance and resistance-marker interpretation.
- Antiviral assay development, validation and dose-response analysis.
- Experience working with respiratory viruses such as influenza, RSV or coronaviruses would be particularly valuable.
- Strong hands-on experience analysing and interpreting experimental data yourself, rather than solely managing or supervising research.
- Excellent scientific reasoning, critical thinking and the ability to make evidence-based decisions around complex biological questions.
- Regular use of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude or similar, with the ability to identify scientifically incorrect or unsupported AI-generated answers.
- Confidence in challenging conclusions, explaining scientific uncertainty and updating your position when presented with new evidence.
